I don't think the full extent of their powers are explained, but it would seem they have the ability to change their fur color after summoning their halo, then dismissing the halo and they get stuck with whatever color pattern they choose. They would need to summon their halo again in order to change colors or return to their base color.

If you look at page 4, you can see them using their halos to change to white and pink, then they dismiss them in the next page in order not to freak out the crowd.
