"Listen to some cripple."

Like she doesn't have arms and legs, and couldn't crush you into a small, squishy meatball with them.

I could see is she had stumps or was still missing her limbs. Such a stupid thing to say.

Well technically she only has one arm, definitely a cripple. You're just too retarded to see the difference between a prosthetic limb with fuck handles and a functional leg. Cuckos will always white knight fictional cripples with a pussy

Gotta agree with the Jensen and Denton there. If we can overcome the Energy Storage and Biological Rejection problems, Transhumans will be terrifyingly more powerful than regular humans.

They don't even have to look like metal freaks either. Look at Ghost in the Shell for a good example.

Remember that a significant part of the original GitS movie was related to the point that she didn't have a period.

Reminder the original Ghost in the Shell Manga ruined Human Revolution in a single panel.

Also the fact that your body effectively becomes like a pair of clothes, (that scene where motoko passes by a mannequin that looks like her), so with a prosthetic what do you really have to define yourself?
There's a lot of real issues that people ignore because they might be able to jump higher or not get killed by a bullet.

If you're depending on aspects of your body to define yourself, you're doing self-identity wrong to begin with.

Your identity comes from your brain, but do you have proof that you have a brain?

We don't have proof of anything. All statements of knowledge are based on that which has never been conclusively proven true. We must act as if things are true in order to function, but we are all gamblers.

As for your body, there is nothing to it that you can't lose. Your age changes by itself, your race will be interpreted differently if you simply travel to another part of the world, and as for cybernetics? You could always get into an accident and have your limbs blown off anyway, and you would still be you as much as you were before, so why would you be less you by replacing them?

I need to remember that not everyone here will understand allusions to Ghost in the Shell.
>>1182712
What I meant in my post was that one plot point in GitS is whether the protagonist has a human brain or not. The brain is part of your body, by the way.
>you would still be you as much as you were before
I disagree. While your brain is the most important part of who you are, your entire body affects your brain to some extent.

Oh? If such an accident did happen to you, then what? Would you consider yourself dead? Changed? Less of a person? Do you consider people who have suffered such accidents to be less people than they were, or imagine they would be somehow forced to revise how they identify themselves?

Even whether or not you have a human brain doesn't matter. If someone still has an "I", that little voice in the dark behind their senses watching itself and thinking, then they're a person, whether it runs on meat or circuits or magical ghost matter. Strip away everything else and there will still be a person there. Perhaps, with trauma or changed circumstances, the pattern of those thoughts would change, but that happens to everyone through their whole lives, just from the environment around them changing. Even the food you choose to eat or how much sunlight you get every day has an influence on how you think and act, by way of altering the chemical balance in that meat brain of yours.

Replacing some of your limbs and organs with artificial ones that can do the same things would not necessarily reduce or alter your personhood or self-identity to any greater degree than a bunch of things people already do all the time. A person could feel reduced or altered in their identity if such things happened to them, but that's because on some level they choose to do so. It's just as possible that they could feel more secure in their self-image or identity with such changes, like if someone who based a lot of their identity on their job became better able to do that job.

Not dead, but definitely different. Not less of a person, but a different person.

Just because the discussion pulled me in (inb4 mods scream "take it to /d/"), I'll simply say this:

Reality is based upon perception, it is ultimately up to you to define it.

You can use yourself, you can use others, or a combination of both.

But that's reality.

As to the comic, not bad. Definitely different. I like the fact that it took the format it did.

You are becoming a different person every day of your life. That IS life, essentially.
