It's been a while since I've read it (and I don't want to slog through all that broken English again), but I'll put down what I can remember. Keep in mind that Miles's adaptation is quite different from the original story, which also has a twist ending, so it may have no bearing on how the comic unfolds.

From what I remember, the story takes place in some kind of magical floating city called Karpengrad. Huska steals a necklace or something, and she and Richard (who is referred to several times as a "leopard" and may not be a fox at all) are thrown in jail on suspicion of the theft. During the night, they have sex (this is the part that the first comic chapter is based on), and afterward, Huska gives Richard a blowjob until he nods off to sleep.

Then things go off the rails.

In the morning, the guards find that Huska has mysteriously vanished from her cell. They interrogate Richard, who is suspected of being her accomplice, but he can provide no explanation. A police detective forcibly recruits Richard into helping her track down the escaped Huska.

Huska travels around the city having sex with several different men. She's not doing it to spare Richard from the gallows, as depicted in chapter 2 of the comic; she's just being really slutty. I clearly remember a scene where she "loses" a card game with some ruffians and gets willingly gangbanged over the table for her trouble, which is probably what the pirate chapter is based on.

Richard and the detective keep looking for Huska, but they never find any trace of her. It's as if she simply disappeared. With Huska having vanished, the detective gives up the search, and with no evidence to hold him on, Richard is released from custody.

Here's where things *really* go off the rails.

Richard and Huska rendezvous in a graveyard. It is revealed that Richard is actually Lucifer, and Huska is an angel (which is why all the comic covers depict her with wings). The two of them have just gotten married and have been celebrating their honeymoon in the mortal realm. Huska has been going around banging every man in sight and indulging in hedonistic pleasure because she's not allowed to do that kind of thing in heaven. A small demon servant of Richard's appears to summon him back to hell, and he and Huska vanish in a flash of fire.

That's it. That's the ending. Whether we'll get the same one or not, I don't know.

But the real reason behind that thing, probably, is tedium - you can only tell "And when they fucked" story so many times before you'll be yawning at the mere mention of it. That's the point where artists start innovating and experimenting with different styles and forms just alleviate the boredom. Or do random dumb shit like Nuke'em'all at the end as a "metaphor" of explosive orgasm. Which is probable case with Miles since the fucker seems to be deathly bored with art in general and does it only as part-scamming for money/part-penal servitude for the most of the time.

Regardless, that nuke was one of my joyest laughters that year - so there's that.

It was an early comic translated pretty roughly to English, but I always took it as the couple's attempt at one more "normal" night, knowing their impending doom.

It wasn't explained clearly, especially with the opening pages, but there are multiple references to the trappings, looks and feelings of life not being needed or necessary anymore.

That comes after years of seeing that comic around though, my original reaction was definitely a "WTF just happened?"

It's a Russian short story and the ending is that it is an Angel (Huska) and a devil (Richard) are on a honeymoon in the mortal realm.

The comic has deviated massively from what happens in the story, but it is based off of that tale. Volume 1 in the prison cell is pretty much exactly what happens with the whole sharing the blanket thing.

The fact they are an angel and demon isn't expressed until the very end, where they meet up together and the devil turns up to take them back to hell.

It's bad enough to draw the horse with the half-assed ears of an ass, inverted nostrils, and a misplaced eye.

But there's not even the hint of a right eye on that vixen's face. This concealment would make sense if her eye socket were hidden by deep shadow instead of slightly darkened by a hint of shading.

Artists can only be evaluated by their abilities to see and to draw. The drawings might be stylized, but even here, an ability to see can make the stylizations convincing.

Miles-DF no longer seems to look at anything, and his lazy eye makes his drawings lazy. If his viewers don't point this out, then who will? And the reason they should point this out, is that he once showed potential -- a potential I'd be happy to see him regain.

Perfection's not the issue, here. (And what the hell is perfect? Anything in human experience? Anything at all?)

The issue is competence. Do the horses look like horses? Do the heads look as if they had skulls in there? Are the bodies believable in the context the artist has already established?

Context is set by the artist. Wisely or not, Miles-DF set himself up as an artist who paid attention to anatomy, both human and animal. He set the standards, then he fell short.

Mickey's not based on recognizable anatomy in the way that most of DF's characters are. As I've said, the artist sets the context by which his work is evaluated.

He obviously did not set photo-realistic proportions as the standard. So you're still not right. Because you're trying to whine about the horse not being photorealistic when really he's just drawing it in his own style. Just like the 'foxes' which don't look much like foxes at all compared to the horse head looking like a horse head.
He has NEVER set "anatomically correct" as the norm for this comic, head, body, or otherwise. Characters can end up having human proportion legs, or cartoony digitigrade legs. Both of them here. Arms with definition to no human definition but cartoony proportions. You literally cannot argue about a horse being drawn a bit different from how a real horse looks when there's so much that isn't to realistic standards already in this comic.

Unrelated to your argument, but I'm triggered by the art style clash; you can tell that one of those heads was drawn in his newer art style compared to the comic's original art style.

I can see your point. I disagree, if only because the lovers (used to) have a more "stable" human anatomy than the grotesque characters in the background, and because the horses are not sneering spectators, but animals. They have no symbolic or dramatic reason to be grotesque.

I wouldn't call it bad drawing skills but more like heavily stylized. Also, if his skills are so bad why would ppl pay up to 5k for a single YCH pic which will be also sold at conventions on canvas?
But he openly admited that he has no idea about light sources and shadow casting. So he just adds shadows he thinks look sexy and cool. I mean most comic artists back then did the same. Can't blame them
