Physical age is different from Chronological age. They were sorta dead. But only in a toon sense. Since in the original series they were said to have been locked in the water tower for decades, being buried was likely little different for them.

Physical age-wise they look sorta like perpetual teenagers. And not gonna lie, the Gumball cartoon did the characters turning into Anime shtick before them.
