For goofy old sci-fi fun: Original Series & Animated Series.
For stronger characters and a more serious tone: Next Generation.
For the only other good series: Deep Space Nine.

I recommend looking for top tens or lists of the most iconic episodes. Then watch Lower Decks (the animated series), which makes many references to those. Every series starts a bit rocky but once they find their footing things usually get pretty good (they call it "growing the beard" because of The Next Generation having the best episodes after Riker gets his iconic look).

Kinda of a bummer that show gets a bad rep. I find it funny enough (even though I cant stand Beckett). But its still weird the majority of any fandom always pile on the hate when it comes to comedic parodies of said fandom.

Old timer and old fan of the older series here.

We don't hate 'Lower Decks' because it's comedic (heck, one of the favorite movies of the fandom is Galaxy Quest, which is a giant comedic parody of Star Trek, and we love it to the point we made it unofficially part of the 'list of star trek films'). We hate 'Lower Decks' because it's basically a bunch of toxic morons being assholes to each other for petty reasons. Aka, the antithesis of what we love in Star Trek.

I just started in on The Orville with my girlfriend 3 days ago, and I've gotta say, it's capturing a lot of what made TNG good better than Discovery, and the humor is better than The Lower Decks. Somehow, the Trek parody series is doing Trek more justice than the actual franchise properties.

Not to mention, the nostalgia is off the charts. The set designs and costumes scream 90s while still having a perfectly-modern production quality on closer inspection. Costumes like the ones on Sargus 4 (S01E07 "Majority Rule"), with their conspicuous "upvote/downvote" badges remind me of so many thrown-together costumes of the TNG/DS9 era. It's great.

Nah man, TNG was the one to reference something from TOS. Naked Time is where the crew gets crazy from a substance in the planet. Naked Now was the TNG episode referencing the first, and they even check the first enterprise logs to find the cure.

Kirk's womanizing is an overstated meme, McCoy was more likely to actively chase girls. Kirk was more like a romance novel himbo who kept somehow managing to stumble into romantic entanglements without really setting out to.

Well while it's predictable that option one is in the runoff, I'm glad option five made it just in time for the runoffs as well. At least Eric's patrons know very well that a basic tentacle porn story and that crappy premise for that TMNT parody would've been a snore fest from the descriptions alone.

This is the third time people found Chiropterana a middling option. I guess ZZ Studios and a British rabbit are more likable than batgirl wannabe, although considering her stories never go anywhere that's probably the reason why it loses so often.
