Ah, it's one of those amazonian types. Once your work is done they eat you.

From the looks of things, they didn't just milk him for semen. They literally drained his life-force. Because he looked like an old man when they were done. With the way he was acting, I'm guessing they give off some kind of pheromone for subjugation of human males. No wonder the comic states the best way out is suicide.

Maybe I'm wrong, but aren't Kobolds supposed to be little lizard people, not mammals?

the typical japanese pixelized style is really nice, if among your fetishes is eye-rape.

'Kobolds' generally refers to everybody's favorite little lizard fucktoys, but the Japanese Yokai 'kobolds' are smaller, dog-like people. Read some manga with Japanese centric monster people (e.g. Monster Musume) and you'll see them more often.

Technically you can only call them cannibals if they're eating their own race. To them, humans are livestock

Screentones are a classic manga method to provide texture and tends to look way better when on printed media. Hi-res scans and digital renders makes them look way more obnoxious than they're meant to since you can zoom in and it's usually best to never full view stuff like this if you can help it.

With that said though, hoo boy! This is the most aggressive amount of screentoning I've ever seen. Usually artists are supposed to use it to make smaller elements stand out like clothes or fur but it's EVERYWHERE. @_@

and it never looked better than flat tones or colors. the only reason for doing it is to depict different tones with printers that can only do full black on full white. and yet this is everywhere in japanese comics, even ones made for online posting.

I suppose then partially in defense of most japanese kemono comics like this, they are almost all made to be printed in omnibuses and the like and sold at conventions. As much as I usually don't mind it (sometimes I think stylistically it can be cool) this one is way over done.

It also doesnt help that digitally it does all kinds of weird things with it at different scales. On my phone if I zoom just right they are practically invisible, but on desktop they turn into all kinds of splotching migraine inducing messes.

Ack-chew-alley <adjusts glasses>

Kobolds are a European creation. Small, ugly humanoids who are sometimes seen in various places (hiding on ships, deep in mines, etc.), though originally they could take other inhuman forms like wisps of fire or simple objects like candles or tools appropriate to their locale. It was said that if they were placated the people working around them would find great fortune in their task (hitting a motherlode in a mine for example as sections of rock would seemingly fall away). But if one were to scorn them or somehow displease them, or even if one crossed them on a bad day, one could find equal misfortune as the kobolds took to foul tricks and malicious traps (mine collapses, ships sinking, etc.).

The lizard thing is a corruption of this ideal in the very early days of RPGs that just stuck. Originally in Chainmail they retained their human form but had horns added. Slowly they morphed into lizard people, popularised by Tucker's Kobolds (a very good read, if you don't know of them). Meanwhile in Asia (not just Japan), kobolds were a lone word (name?) for the little dog people in a variety of stories when stories would involve a more Western culture or setting (probably because each culture has their own "small ugly humanoid" mythos and they wanted something foreign and appealing to readers).

Centuries on, the kobolds living in caves and being good at traps and trickery hasn't gone anywhere, but their form has certainly changed.
