Well Siroc for whatever reason is in the middle of rebranding his image from "so my OC constantly rapes things" to "all my comics are women who are coerced or are tsundere so when the porn hits it's not as OMG."

Siroc went on some weird mass deleting spree on various sites to remove anything of his that was obviously rape or dubcon a year ago, he missed a lot, but ever since his future content has been coercion focused so I'm assuming some of his friends gave him flak for it.

There is a reasonable chance this is going to take the usual spin of the "shoplyfter/shoplifting" porn kink where she's going to get pinned down and screwed as opposed to the cops being called, she'll begrudgingly accept it, he'll turn out to be a stern goofball, and Siroc will drag this comic out until Christmas for 20 pages.

I'm curious where this is going. Brooke is presented as a smug "rebel" with nothing to rebel against. She even gets enough free money to live off without lifting a finger! She's set up to be unsympathetic, and the obvious porn direction is for her to cross a line and get dicked down by authority. We dislike her, we think she's got it coming, but she's also hot so we want to vicariously hatefuck her. Straightforward.

But when she crosses a line, the authority figure is professional and reasonable. Brooke even breaks from her snarky attitude to show wide-eyed sincerity in page 5. The characters aren't playing their porn-logic roles.

The comic is also called "Nothing To Hide", which is an infamous phrase used by abusive authority figures to justify surveillance. And the store Brooke robs is called "Evil Empire." Those are odd choices if the authority figures are shown as the good guys and the anti-establishment figure is in the wrong.

So... what's the angle here? It's porn, so there's gotta be sex coming up somehow. Page 7 almost feels like Brooke fighting to put the story back onto the expected rails.

To me it feels like siroc got it backwards and we should have gotten this snarky attitude first and then the sincerity comes out when the weight of the situation presents itself. High and mighty until shes told that the amount she was stealing was high enough to get her in jail and suddenly its no longer a game anymore. For all intents and purposes she is already getting away scott free and then just goes on the offensive for no reason. Its a weird pace thats going to unfortunately be quite the slow burn since hes also working on Filling The Void at the same time.

The one story by Siroc that I enjoyed was the one with Fenneko and Haida, because (for once) the sex was not transactional, it was shared between friends who supported each other emotionally, and because it ended with a developing relationship. In short, it felt human. It also felt as if Siroc liked these characters, and wanted readers to like them, too.

Otherwise, he seems to have a low opinion of men, of women, and most of all, of relationships. He stifles the charm of his drawings with his cold-hearted attitude.
