I say this is an autistic person myself but sometimes you can just tell that an artist is autistic by their drawing style and their lack of progress over decades of attempts. it is actually because you can see the symptom of rigidity and fixation in their style. something about this artwork is uncanny in how it resembles Chris-chan art. it's like if CWC with gritty realism instead of Sonic characters

I can see it, as an autistic artist it's like there is another layer of difficulty because you actually have to test and experiment instead of becoming stuck in your own ways. Chris Chan can get better at drawing, but that's more effort than doing what he already knows. It's like being born with the rigid brain of an elderly person set in their ways.

I wasn't shitting on him for fun. It's demeaning, condescending and massively unhelpful to treat an adult like a child and tell them they're doing good work when they're not.

By the way. I had a major in art. All my mental health providers told me my work was good. So did friends and family. So did classmates. Guess what? It was ass. They just felt bad for me. I couldn't make a career out of it. I just got a lot of college debt and severe depression from failing something I really wanted. If people had been honest with me, life would've been better. Don't fuck any would-be artist with false praise.

This looks like the shit I drew in highschool. If you think this is quality enough to upload, I need you to jump in a time machine and tell my younger self his work didn't suck and it's worth uploading: because I drew that shit before I figured out skeletons, anatomy, perspective and construction and I could've used the confidence boost.

If you told me this was the work of a highschool student, I'd believe you: but this is after 20 years of drawing and he never figured out how to draw faces in perspective. You think he'd have better shading or perspective atleast.

He can draw better than Chris Chan, but that's not a high bar.

That's the ironic thing. That is actually the art degree I went with. I got a few internships, but I couldn't meet production speed demands. Not entirely my fault though. Got brain damage in a car accident. Lost a few pieces in the left medulla and the left corpus callosum / limibic system. Limbic being the brain center responsible for motivation and for mood / memory. Made it really hard to improve, and to find the motivation to.

Anyhow. Back to Wardy. The number 1 failure I see in the facial expressions is that Wardy is going for a realistic style with their bodies and the muscles on them... but the eyes are cartoonist symbolic eyes. Which is to say, it's broken because Wardy is going from a "Real anatomy" style, to a "Summarized" style with the faces.

To fix his style, he needs to stop doing the mental shorthand of what an eye looks like and drawing that, and instead, actually put more time and thought into the eye as a structure and not as a concept.

If that makes no sense, I'll explain it this way. When you ask a child to draw a house and they draw a square and a triangle roof? That's symbolic drawing. That's what Wardy is doing with the eyes. Imagine how jarring it'd be if a child drew a symbolic house but put a realistic Mustang in the driveway. That's what we're seeing here.

My analytic capability survived the car crash, lol.

I looked at his gallery and I am of the opinion that he has very obviously improved over time, so IDK why people keep saying he hasn't. Some of the stuff in this comic is rough, but comics are demanding, so I'm guessing he didn't put in all the time he needed to really show his ability. I can say that with confidence because I've seen what he can do now.

His situation reminds me of Jaleo's, where he coasted with a similar look, made a lot of the same mistakes over and over for like 9 years and them bam! Now Jaleo is a MUCH better artist. If you believe his profile he's 51, so he started posting his art in his 30s. A lot of people like the ones in this thread might have said he drew like a highschooler then, but he's improved over time and enriched his own life in the process. Good thing he didn't quit.

You people talk like a bunch of bitter single 30-something waitstaff at a 20 year old's wedding. He made a comic, you didn't, deal with it. Also, nobody here is qualified to diagnose shit. He's not autistic "because he draws that way". He's married btw. His wife calls him her "king", so he fucks, and you don't. Let that sink in.

There is as much a reason to get defensive toward this artist as there is a reason to get offensive toward this artist. You can just as easily hide the thread and look at something else. Also, he's very clearly improved over the 20 year span. I can see it in his shoulder/arm anatomy especially. He changed mediums around 2022 and that has a learning curve baked in, so things got rough for a while, but he's still progressing. Saying he's not makes YOU look bad.

As far as the comic itself- improvement wouldn't necessarily be obvious because a comic is worked on in stages. Thumbs, sketches, inks, then colors etc. Consistency in style might have been a conscious choice since making any stylistic changed mid-comic could be jarring. Fuck, for all you know he sat on this for 10 years slapped colors on it then drip fed it for engagement. You don't know shit. You're feedback could be helpful if it wasn't sandwiched between turds.
