I can imagine how this might end;
Max wakes up the next morning, having tired himself out, but he thought it was all a dream...at is till he realises he's in a different bed, but the other occupant is missing.
Then he sees Peg emerging from the adjoining bathroom, wearing nothing but her magenta fuzzy slippers and her hair up in curlers, like at the beginning of "To Catch a Goof".
At once, something inside Max clicks and he throws himself at Peg's feet, claiming that Pete was never any good for her, even his own FATHER knew that deep down (yet always had a hard time of actually saying it).
Max swears to do right by Peg, and even pops the question to her, stating that even if she never got the "Original Goof", and since he had a new girlfriend already, Max was more than willing to fill that spot.
Peg at first is taken aback, then laughs it off, and pulls Max to his feet and tells him, as sweet and handsome as he is, she appreciate the act and the offer, and if circumstances were different between either of them (aka the age gap), she would've gladly accepted his proposal. But Max is still a college student with his whole life ahead of him, he shouldn't go throwing it away like that on a whim...
...however, following a passionate kiss between them, she does tell him that once he graduates from college, she'll be waiting for him - not with, but AS, his graduation present...
