Yeah, Comatose clearly is nowhere near as good writing dialogue as they are drawing. It'll be fun re-writing it all once we see all of the art panels to work with.

I redacted the comic, removing it from the public for a major rework. While reading the comments is hurtful, it’s honestly what I would expect, and that’s okay. I only want to make stuff people enjoy so this’ll come back with a new face. I’ll be connecting with some writers in the community because I know you guys deserve more. Good (or in my case, okay) artists SHOULD also write good plots, so expect that from now on.

Honestly, only the first page actually looks like a comic, the rest are kinda just like a narrated imageset. It's not just a matter of drawing pictures, writing dialogue and arranging it on a page in little tiles. The dialogue has to be short so it doesn't take up too much space but also seem natural, and you have to make sure that the sequence of images give the user a clear idea of what happens between the panels.

I'll be honest, I don't understand the hate the comic is getting. Yeah, the dialogue is a bit rough here and there, but I'm certain it can be cleaned up without all that much trouble and it's better than a lot of stuff I've read. On the other hand, imho the art is great; especially Otterton's expressions and body language.

Though I do agree the last few pages are more of a narrated image set than a "proper" comic, not that one is better than the other.

I've known this has been happening to porn comics for a long long time. Still, seeing it happen "live" brings my piss to a boil.

An artist makes a porn comic. The redittard fanboy cretins go "The story isn't good" and instead of telling them "It's a fuckin' porno! You're not supposed to come here for a story!" the artist says "Sowwy! I'll include more and better narrative to appease the hrt enhanced intellectuals."

THIS is why all porn comics suck now! You can pour an entire bottle of dressing on an ice-cream cone but it will not turn into a salad. It will just turn into slop. Likewise, you can include an entire novel's worth of world building, back story and characterization in your furry porn but it will not turn into high art. It will just turn into, you guessed it, slop! If you want a story, just read a goddamned book and let porn be porn, ffs!

I disagree entirely with what you said. Porn and story aren’t mutually exclusive. Bad story doesn’t ruin porn, and good story doesn’t magically turn it into “high art” either, it just gives the sex context. Some people want five pages of fucking, some people want build-up and characters. Neither is wrong. The problem isn’t story existing, it’s forcing one approach on everyone and pretending your preference is objective truth.

Saying porn comics suck because they have stories is like saying food sucks because it has seasoning. You don’t hate story, you hate bad execution and that’s not the same thing.

This trend of "narrative in porn" is relatively new. What were you doing before this? How did you watch porn? Were you just sitting there, dazed and confused, haunted by questions like "Why can't this woman pay for her pizza?" or "Why does this French maid have a Slavic accent?" or "Why is the guy behind the camera telling these girls to kiss?" instead of just jerking off to the porn that was created with the sole porpoise of jerking off to?! Porn is it's own justification. It doesn't need context!

It's amazing how you've made the perfect analogy for the situation and still missed the crux the problem. That problem being quantity. Yes, a steak lightly dusted with garlic powder can be a great experience for some, while still not being a total deal breaker for the rest. Likewise, a two page set-up for 5 pages of porn is a totally reasonable compromise. Taking 40 pages and 40 weeks to set up the same 5 pages of porn however is bullshit! Just like having to dig out my steak from a bucket of garlic powder is bullshit.
