SUPPOSEDLY Cobalt has just been very busy with life. They started either a new job or some sort of post-secondary education (not sure which), and intend to come back when they have more time.

Cobalt got in trouble with the Simba Dakimaru and looking at his social medias I think it got to him a lot. From the trouble with the owner to the trouble with Tartii... If I were to guess, he just got sick of the furry community and abandoned ship. Can't completely blame him. It was a bad situation.

I was about to make a section to say he's still doing fine and might come back to make art... but I don't think so. You see, he switched to selling on Adore-a-pup after all the inkedfur drama. On there, a customer asked if Cobalt was alright and the owner said he was in contact, and that Cobalt was doing his own thing, but he was okay. But now, the listing for the Simba Daki has been removed so I can't find the review anymore. The daki was taken down sometime in the last month, because I checked it some time a month ago. You'll have to take my word on it.

If the Simba Daki was removed, I can only guess it was Cobalt requesting for it to be taken down. If Cobalt requested this to be taken down, he may request his other pieces to be taken down, so save what you want to save. I may get into contact with Rana(adore-a-cub owner) and ask why the daki was taken down.

Be hopeful that he comes back. Plenty of people would be very happy about it. (But I guess some of y'all think he will definitely return some time soon? I don't understand why he would, but tell me if you have reasons to think that)

A mutual friend of mine said they still talked with them and they're alright enough. When they asked why they ignore me now he refused to acknowledge the question.

When something stresses him it like, overloads his brain and he can't face it anymore. People, sites, etc.

The reason his Patreon stayed collecting was because he was afraid of logging back in until I pushed him to shut it down because by still collecting money he was making it worse.

Yeah, I don't know if he's coming back. TLDR of the screenshot is that I messaged the person who was hosting the Simba Daki, and Cobalt effectively asked the host to take down the Daki. I don't see a reason that someone would get rid of passive income unless if they didn't like that they were gaining income that way. It just doesn't really make sense to me.

We sort of have a spiritual successor to Cobalt, at least in that "Drawing on-model but even better" aspect. Leto does some damn good Disney-like characters. And not just foxes.

It's a lot more complicated than that.

Loli/Shota artists have two main things protecting them:
A) The ability to pull out the old "Akshually she's a 5000 year old vampire who just looks like a little girl", and it works because more often than not lolis/shotas in media are characters with "actually not a child" backstory, or are at the very least depicted as young characters taking on responsibilities that even an adult would struggle with (eg. Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura, Digimon, Assassination Classroom, etc).
B) It's got an incredibly large following and is a widely accepted thing in Japan, so even if your western audience fucks off, you'll still have a bunch of Japanese backing you.

Cub artists have none of that.

Cub art is an incredibly microscopic niche thing, even within the fandom itself. Definitely not worth burning the goodwill of the already very niche furry fandom just to please a few furries with special interests.

Also more or less ALL cub characters who aren't explicit OCs have lore that establishes them as being a child (eg. simba, kit, koda, etc) which means no matter how you twist and turn it, what you are drawing will be "children" lorewise AND in the eyes of everyone.

And even if what you draw is a "1000 year old vampire cub OC", disney and western cartoons have conditioned us to associate cubs with children because they are always written and designed for the purpose of teaching moments that children can connect with and by association be taught lessons about emotions/social behavior/growing up/etc.

So I full understand why cub artists are skittish. If your intent is to make a living from art, "cub scandals" could very well end your art career.
At least loli/shota artists can pull out $2000 from their wallet and go "lmao I make more money than most of our neighbors" when their mom finds out. Cub artists would be pulling out $50 and a mcdonalds ketchup packet.

I didn't care if people bitched at me, but the second my artist friends started getting shit for it. Well the fact was, I didn't like drawing cub any more than the other stuff, so I just didn't care about dropping it. If it's completely internalized then I guess yeah, we can let people be disgusted by themselves. I personally think that way of thinking lacks empathy, but that's your prerogative. When the internalized shame bleeds out and affects other people, then it becomes unreasonable.
