I understand the talking points but what's the point?
Isn't it the same as the Digimon and Pok mon or short stack thing at FA?
I'm exhausted with the "if it's lewd they can't be short and cute or chibi or it's automatically cub" gymnastics.
Even if the artist has just been drawing way and tells everyone yeah everyone is an adult there's always side eye. Can't we collectively take the creators word at face value and not treat it like an animal meme unironically.
On that take chopper for example he's 17 in canon, cute, and short but lewd fan art typically doesn't bother with the aged up thing but gets a pass. Why?

tbh, Tails is canonically 8 to 11 depending on surce and game, you can't make him on model with said "he 18+" when we know they canon age in that appearance AND how he may look at real 18...
same for sonic since he like 15 i think? or the inverse fo Rouge who is 18 in canon...

Yeah, the artist can say what they like, but that requires a reasonable amount of suspension of disbelief. When you're drawing girls like Zaush does, or the lion in Zacky's animation who's half the size of the hyenas, you lose a lot of credibility when you say "C'mon guys I swear they're all adults"

To give artists a little credit, Sonic characters ages are somewhat confusing since adults that are canonically in their mid 30's are the same size as Sonic who is a teenager...so drawing them "18 and up" is not exactly intuitive.

That's why an artists stylistic choice is so important. If they don't draw Sonic characters reasonably on model that feels like the "Sonic Style" or some iteration of it, then you have to judge each artists attempt individually.

Other than that...yeah, the "everyone is 18" thing is kind of an obvious "Don't sue me" stunt by the artists.

Considering what’s happened in the past few months, with artists being heavily targeted and exposed, it doesn’t surprise me that he doesn’t have the guts to openly admit he like that kind of content. If I remember correctly, trolls even went after him just because he had an account on Inkbunny even though he wasn’t posting anything there.

And on top of that, imagine how much money he could lose. Patreon is extremely strict about that kind of content. Even if he had two separate accounts one for content X and another for Y Patreon and some people on the platform tend to keep an eye on things and start causing trouble. I’ve seen that happen before. Sometimes the artist wasn’t even doing anything “wrong” on Patreon and... BOM! Got fucked over.

So it’s safer to just add a little footnote like “the character is 100 years old” and keep things ambiguous instead of openly taking the blame for something like that.

Cowardly? Maybe. Unfair? Yeah. But what choice would he really have? Better to just keep the show going and pretend that character X is simply short.
