Question: Why do cub authors throw in the towel and call it quits (under the old name)?

This person has deleted all of his socials such as InkBunny and Pixiv, yet, his content remains for all to see on other sites.

A lot of time now, it's mostly pressure from assholes trying to ruin the life of the artists via doxing. There's one site notorious for it that I can't name because it's word filtered.

It’s actually kinda obvious if you stop and think about the logic behind it. There are a bunch of possible reasons, but here’s like 5 things that probably represent 80% of why artists stop drawing that kind of stuff.

Regret

The artist realizes what they draw feels immoral to them, starts feeling ashamed, and then stops on their own because they just don’t want to draw cub anymore. Sometimes it’s because they had unresolved trauma and eventually worked through it, or maybe because of religion or personal beliefs changing over time.

Fear

Seriously, drawing cub can be dangerous for your safety. Some people already got caught, or are scared they eventually will. In some places it’s even illegal to draw pornographic content like that. The recent wave of doxxing showed artists who had been around for 10+ years that they can get screwed over at any moment. You can easily lose your real-life job or completely ruin your credibility.

Real-life situation

Some artists had to move houses, started sharing rooms, dealing with family around them all the time, stuff like that. Or they moved somewhere where drawing that content is illegal, or where laws changed and made it illegal later on.

Artistic image getting damaged

This might honestly even be the case here. Some artists eventually realize, sometimes too late, that cub/loli/shota/toddler art is basically an anchor dragging their career down. Sure, you can make some extra money from it, but if you wanna go mainstream and release a game like the stuff Carrot did, it’s usually better to stop drawing cub and focus on more normal content. Your audience can grow a lot more, you can make more money, and it also matters if you ever wanna work on commercial projects or normal productions. Porn art isn’t exactly gonna help you get hired by Disney or keep a clean image as a family-friendly creator or producer.

They just got tired of it

Sometimes the artist genuinely liked it. Sometimes they loved being able to draw whatever they wanted without limits. But eventually they got burned out and stopped finding meaning or enjoyment in it anymore, so they dropped it. And honestly, deleting the art can still give some benefits. Some artists only drew that stuff as vent art, and once they got over their trauma or changed as a person, they just lost interest in continuing.

I dunno about that one, it worked pretty well for Rebecca Sugar, who drew porn of cartoons in the past (especially Ed Edd n' Eddy) and even when the internet discovered it, didn't even make a dent in her life or career. So it is very possible to have drawn porn in the past and still have a professional career, as long as you don't publicly draw any more of it.

this is why I'm in favor of AI cub. Can't dox/cancel a computer, plus you can post it anonymously.

2017 and she had been working on Steven Universe since 2013 with a signed contract. Obviously by then she already had a successful show, and it was far too late to completely destroy her image. Especially considering she also had a sort of shield from groups that tend to overlook things when someone from their own side messes up. But even if you don’t believe that, just the fact that she had a successful show already says enough.

Now imagine that same bomb dropping back in 2013 instead. Yeah... she would’ve been completely screwed. The show could’ve even been canceled or handed over to someone else. The puritans would’ve pushed so hard that Cartoon Network probably would’ve caved.

I agree with you though. If someone drew something, regretted it, and stopped, they have a much better chance of being forgiven, especially if there’s a huge gap of time since the last controversial drawing and people only discover it years later. It also depends on the public statement and a bunch of other factors, so it’s not exactly a recipe. But in the end, it usually comes down to the same thing: there’s always a chance you getting fucked over.

Indeed, your reputation cannot be lowered since your creation is already has a reputation of a shit pile even before it gets created, since you are not the one that created it and can't feel any responsibility of it.
