My opinion is that it was a pretty standard sci-fi Hollywood blockbuster. But it wasn't Star Wars. The music was good though. During one of the dragging battle scenes I just closed my eyes and listened to the musical score. It improved the experience.

Can someone explain why they didn't like "The Last Jedi"?

I mean it wasn't the highlight of my movie-going life or anything, but I don't get the DISlike of it.

My major critiques is that it killed off a bad guy too quick and should've stopped before that desert battle scene. Still, decent action. Some good comedy.

And I personally liked the side quest to the casino-type place. Was it pointless? Yeah, but so are tons of real-life military missions.

1)Rey reaching mary sue levels nobody thought it was possible
2)The whole "we can't solve anything with violence" hypocritical moral which stopped an actual cool scene.
3)The complete destruction of Luke skywalker's character.
4)The rebel commander not actually explaining her plans and causing problems.

Luke wouldn’t plot to kill a kid, even if they were emo and annoying. A complete betrayal of his character, given the events of Return of the Jedi and Luke’s efforts to save Vader.
Luke wouldn’t have then lied about having tried to kill Emo Ren.
Luke wouldn’t then have abandoned his friends for decades. Given up training anyone else? Maybe. But leaving his friends to fight and die alone is a betrayal of his character, given the events of the Empire Strikes Back as Luke knowingly enters into a trap rather than leave his friends to suffer.
Carrie Fisher was wasted in her final film role because Rian Johnson thought she’d just live forever until the next movie would get made where she may have been given a larger role. Older actors need to be treated as if it were their last movie because it just might be.
Rey is boring
Finn is boring
Poe is boring
Rose is boring
Kylo Ren is boring and even Snoke makes fun of him
Snoke is interesting which means he had to die ASAP
Benicio Del Toro’s character is interesting which means he cannot be allowed more than 2 minutes screen time in a 2 and a half hour movie
It’s a 2 and a half hour movie
Whatever happened to the Knights of Ren? Haha hey man it’s just a movie don’t take everything so seriously
Why was Poe’s ship not immediately destroyed when approaching Hux’s ship? The First Order has never been interested in prisoners. The reason was solely to get in the your mama jokes. Kudos to the committee that greenlighted that it was awesome
Why can’t Star Destroyers intercept the Resistance cruisers and or release a million TIE Fighters? Haha it’s just a movie what am I, some sort of alt-right person messing up the Rotten Tomatoes score?
The First Order can only afford 10 TIE Fighters
Finn and Rose weren’t immediately executed upon their capture on Snoke’s ship because this is an episode of Adam West’s Batman series
For Poe’s mutiny to happen, Laura Dern’s character must refuse to let him in on her plan, for the sole purpose of the plot to advance in the limited creative capacities of the writers. She could have simply told him her plan, and then have him reject it and try to stage a mutiny, but come on man it’s just a movie
Why didn’t Laura Dern just jump to lightspeed and cut Snoke’s ship in two in the first few minutes of this movie?
All cgi in this movie looks awful, from the creatures on Canto Bight to Snoke’s face. Yoda as a puppet looks great, as did any of the aliens who were puppets. It’s almost as if they understood that Yoda looked better as a puppet than he did as cgi in the prequels, but that their brains couldn’t make the same connection for the other characters. Huh.
Of course, Luke milking some alien
Of course, Leia flying in space
The zombie defenders of this movie keep insisting that you need to let go of the original trilogy and that it’s this somehow amazing meta narrative in the movie which sure would be fine if it weren’t for the fact that it was a subpar remake of the Empire Strikes Back

>1)Rey reaching mary sue levels nobody thought it was possible

Meh, I don't think she was any more of a Mary Sue than Luke in the first movies; Or compared to every almost other male sci-fi protagonist?

The first point is that Luke is not unrealistically great at everything, he stumbles and fails in almost every chance he gets. He was tricked by the R2 into releasing him free and allowing him to wonder off. Durning Lukes very first ever physical altercation with the raiders he was defeated easily and required help from Obi-wan Kenobi who scared them off. Luke also is extremely weak physically and that is shown in that situation and durning the canteena scene where Obi-wan had to save him once again. He is not perfect at everything he does and is quiet brash and impatient when speaking to Han solo and About his jedi training with Obi-wan before his death.

As for how he could pilot the X wing to destroy the deathstar, well in his background luke was already shown to be an excellent pilot and durning a line of exposition said that he had shot wamrats smaller then deathstars weak point. It was also shown that he had flown ships similar to the X wing and if Rey can pick up to fly the falcon on experience from god knows where then i think similar vechicals are a good explaination for lukes piloting plus he had an entire squadron to support him in the battle of Yavin and even then luke had help from Obi-wans force ghost and Han coming to save him in the last minute for Luke to save the day. Luke continues to fail time and time again in the other two movies, in empire Luke needed han solo to save him in again by stuffing him.on the guts of a jaws and Luke was taken down by the snow monster leaving him trapped and vulnerable as well. His most noticable defeat comes at the hands of darth vader when his brashness and recklessness causes a prematurely trained Luke to lose to vader unlike *cough* Rey knocking out kylo when she just touched a lightsaber * deep cough and wheeze* .

Even an accomplished Jedi knight luke that we see in ROTJ still fails at his rescue plan for han and needs R2 D2 to save him from jabas clutches, Luke even was saved by his his father from the emperor in the end, technically not beating the main villian in the end and redeeming his father in the process. This shows that even years of training in the ways of a jedi still doesnt excuse Luke for failing time to time and from requiring help.

Rey on the other hand is perfect at everything. She even masters force powers perfectly, without ever having heard about them. Why even bother to have a Jedi or Sith order, if somebody can be perfect without having to spend their whole lives with force training?

Star wars 7 was okay...it's just it's execution was a bit clumsy but it's a decent movie to watch if you give it a chance, it's more like a "attempt" than anything esle, it's just needed some improvement...well, is there was one actually

i don't know if i can tell if episode 8 if worth to watch since there was a lot the backlash regarding his negative reception. i mean i am in the part of the minority who like the episode 7 but if what i heard from the 8 is correct, that mean the franchise is going to be screwed soon...

I don’t really think Rey is as much of a Mary Sue as people make her out to be. First of all there are multiple types of Mary Sue, it doesn’t just mean perfect at everything. That’s known as the God Mode Mary Sue, a character who is ludicrously overpowered and never fails at anything. And Rey doesn’t fit the criteria for that because she doesn’t really succeed at using force powers. When she persuaded the guard in 7 it was obviously a move of desperation she didn’t know would work, she only barely wins the fight against Kylo in 7 and he was already wounded. And in 8 the most impressive thing she does with the force is move a bunch of rocks and that’s it. How is Rey overpowered when she barely survives and the most impressive thing she does with the force is move rocks? Also the idea that she just picks this stuff up without hearing about before is just stupid, in the scene with Han Solo in 7 she expresses amazement that the stories about the Jedi are all true. If she had never heard about the Jedi or the force then why would she act that way? Because she has heard stories about the Jedi and the force and she idolizes them. Perhaps you mean that she is more of the classic Mary Sue, basically the self insert character who takes over the story and becomes the most important character in an already established plot. That’s basically what the original Mary Sue was, just a self insert but there are a lot of varieties of them now. TvTropes has dozens of different types of Mary Sue listed. Bottom line, it really peeves me when people throw the word Mary Sue around to just mean a character they don’t like when that is not the proper use of the term. If you are going to hate the character of Rey then it should be for legitimate reasons like the fact that her personality is kind of bland and boring which is my biggest problem with the character.

Usually a woman character they don't like.

Luke was kind of bland and boring too.

So are most protagonists, as the good folks at Cracked explained:

It has been a really long time since I went to see a movie in the theater. I just get really anxious sitting in a theater and start doing things like thumping my legs in place. Drives my mother crazy. I eventually told her to just go to movies without me, she does not need to drag me to every one she wants to see.

One of my neighbors has a fear of going to the theater and refuses to go to them anymore. Why? He is afraid of getting caught up in a mass shooting. Which I think is dumb but how am I going to argue that besides bringing up statistics? I doubt he would be convinced if I just tell him how statistically unlikely that is.

but if you ask me, most French movie over here in general tend to have a bad reputation regarding their production and the market they are in because of their lack of originality. Most of the time, the movie that are produced in France are either comedy or realistic drama because they are the most popular genre over here but also the most financally successful in general. Unlike the USA, France don't have the wherewithal to finance something that different, they are mostly interested to finance somethind that can be a commercial success because unlike our american friend, our finance are coming directly from Public funding.

True. Fun fact: the first sci-fi movie "A Trip to the Moon" (French: Le Voyage dans la Lune) was actually from France! I do agree with our French friend: it is a shame that the French movie industry shies away from doing fantasy and sci-fi.

I like too many to list I think my favorite is dead silence.

All around the last couple questions are probably summed up by the movie Wes Craven's "they". The idea of being hunted by creatures from another reality that crossover into our world through darkness is flatout horrifying conceptually. It compares to the tension of having to envision living in the shoes of the characters in movies such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers or A Quiet Place. I also like the settings a lot, even during the day it manages to create an unsettling atmosphere.
