Some tips about locations to find ERP / posing partners in SL, based on my experience. If you are new or simply have not been lucky, here's my observations about different places I've tried hooking up:
YIFF
>Likelihood of hooking up very low. Most patrons are there to chat and socialize and are not looking for a hookup. The pose furniture in the private rooms is somewhat limited, too, not to mention lag being an issue.
Knotty Beach
>Likelihood of hooking up very low. Most people are AFK and most users you encounter are more interested in flaunting their new avatars than they are in hooking up. The only time I've hooked up at KB was with a friend who I agreed to meet there ahead of time. Lag is similar to YIFF, although there is more furniture variety, especially if you don't need a private room.
Just Poseball
>Likelihood of hooking up pretty high. Most of my hookups early on were through JP and I still hook up there once in a while. Like KB some people are either AFK or just there to flaunt their sexy avatars, but there are plenty who are there to actually use them. AFK sluts are usually available although I'd advise against using them much, since you don't want a reputation of looking desperate. The new location is unfortunately not as good, with worse private rooms and more limited furniture.
Private sims
>Likelihood of hooking up very high. If another user asks you to come to their player home it's time to move the mouse to your offhand. If you get invited to a private community area and avatars are naked and / or having sex, someone probably thinks you're good e-fuck material for them and/or their friends. Furniture / pose selection varies widely, but you will probably have hardly any lag. Make sure you get a feel for how frisky people are before making a move though, because they will likely want to get to know you a bit first.
Some simple rules of engagement are:
1) Have a good looking avatar and don't overdo it with colors / accessories. If you want a colorful avatar, pick one color and stick with it. This goes for male and female avatars. Less is more.
2) Read people's profiles thoroughly before you contact them. If they have an F-list, check it.
3) Have enough info in your profile to sound approachable without giving away too much of yourself. You don't want to look desperate.
4) Use good grammar. This should go without saying, although I have been approached by people who used bad grammar and it is a turnoff.
5) Whether you prefer RP or just want posing, remember that everyone has different preferences. Some users want to be romanced and others want to watch their avatar get fucked. Be flexible and you will have a lot more potential hookups.
