I never said (and I re-read my post to make sure), that we didn't know he was an outsider. I didn't even IMPLY we didn't know that. What I wrote... the exact words that cannot be misinterpreted (comprehension skills withstanding), were that he was UNPOPULAR. There is a little more than a slight difference between being an outsider, and being UNWANTED. To be fair, there is usually a strong correlation, though. That was my complaint, not that I missed a major plot point that took and entire page to make clear to the audience.
Having said all of that, I suppose telling someone that they are an outsider itself can loosely imply that they are unwanted. But, that depends on the individual making that accusation... It was only revealed that the Alpha took him in after being orphaned. BTW, to me that means Cobbs present circumstances are unimaginatively cruel. To give someone a life that amounts to no better than the Tribe/Pack outcast? I might be inspired to choose death over being shunned by all (especially if I shared many traits with a noted pack animal).
On those early pages that you were kind enough not to reference to me and invite me to re-read, Cobb reminisces and admits that he is just a 'Stranger' to the Tribe/Pack. But in that moment, he is clearly in a self depreciating mood because he is talking about this to the one person he doesn't want to discuss this with. In the actual flashback, he also refers himself as such. But, at the time he IS a stranger and still has many years in the interim to grow up and form positive relationships despite this. But otherwise, we were not led to believe that he was UNWANTED by the majority of the Tribe/Pack.
Now, having said that, one could infer from Cobb still referring to himself as 'Stranger' could itself imply he is considered by most as just that. But I think it would take more than just an unusually shrewd reader to come to that conclusion. Especially, since we had no other canon evidence until now about his negative relationships with other Tribe/Pack members.
And, at the risk of irritating you, I am compelled to ask that in the future you read the words that are written and comprehend their meanings BEFORE commenting about words that were never written and meanings that were never conveyed.
