Where did you get this from? I can't imagine it was an official thing on DL-Site like the FCLG anthology translations or the Lagoon Lounge games

Considering it was "filthy gaijins" that were responsible for scanning and distributing his work, he had every right to be upset with those people. Why is it that nobody on this site knows the difference between the people who consume pirated material and the people that upload it in the first place. When a site is full of Japanese language scans of comics that were originally marked to Japanese people, it should be no surprise that a lot of the visiting traffic was from Japanese IP addresses. While that traffic statistic is often cited, I've never heard what percentage of scan uploads were from Japanese IP addresses.

He restricted his work to doujinshi events where he would only distribute it to Japanese people that physically attended it. I know this because he refused to sell books to me at C86 because I was a foreigner. He also avoids posting anything publicly about what events he even plans on attending, which made it difficult for any overseas customers to send event proxies to get his works. And it worked. The only doujin of his since Wolf/Cow that I've seen public scans of is that Volcanion comic.

Its more frustrating cause he did sell his work in eshops that ship internationally (Alice/Rainbow). He even thought about his international fans. The Wolf/Cow i bought at Rainbow had an extra printed note that said an english script was in the works to be posted on his site.
Not to mention my biggest frustration: wondering what hed do next. Wolf/Cow had a big change in his art style with the more defined inking. *sighs*

Japan is pretty devoid of pirate sites, and although many Japanese people have proven that they will happily consume pirated content, they do not create or upload to pirate websites. I first encountered Build Tiger and various other works on the old kemonono imageboards. Because of my initial exposure to the series and the concept of doujinshi in general, I started purchasing them for myself around Build Tiger 7, so I agree that there is some value in EVENTUALLY sharing these kinds of things online, at least for preservation. These days, with abundant international social media, there isn't as much need for exposure, since previews and such are constantly posted online.

When gamma initially requested the takedowns, he was immediately jumped on by a bunch of entitled children that egged him on with obscenities and basically spat in his face by telling him they would work even harder to scan and upload more of his books.
