Bara is usually drawn by men, and Yaoi is usually drawn by women, if stereotypes are to be believed. It does make sense since women are generally drawn to the emotional lovey-dovey side of porn, which you typically see in Yaoi comics, whereas men just want the raw ass pounding, which is more akin to Bara. Of course these explanations aren't going to be the same for every artist, but it's what I've been lead to believe.

i agree, when a artist requests for you to not post there work online its not just because the artist is frustrated you have to understand you run the VERY HIGH risk of having the artist no longer creating content. Maririn is a great artist and i would hate for this artist to stop publishing work all together because people on this site feel entitled to the artist work without paying it. for reals guys please do not post her work on here or any other site for risk of us losing one of the FEW good furry artist out there.

Agreed, it can only delay. I've never liked her comics but I cannot for the Life of me understand why Artists think they can stop people from scanning something and then upload.

If movie studios cannot stop websites from streaming the latest movie that went public for ticket sells, what chance does a "porn artist" have against it?

If you use the internet, its going to be shared with the world. So if you are not saying these "whinny lame arse words and air filling threats" to create hype for your artwork to be purchased and are being serious, too bad so sad get bent and get lost.

It may sound rude and harsh but there are plenty of other furry artists that appreciate the idea of their art being worshiped and yeah some of them have asked that not everything be leaked out and people do comply to those requests out of respect.

This is something this artist doesn't have.

Man, why do so many Japanese artists do this? It never goes well. She's a great artist and person and deserves support, but it's really naive to expect all the people who buy your work to not upload it. I know it's frustrating, but it can't be helped. All it takes is one person. And then when you quit because of it, all the other people who supported you and respected your wishes are thrown under the bus.

Well, most physical only doujins aren't scanned, so I guess it's a good anti-piracy measure. But even that isn't a foolproof method when you're really popular, see: Gamma.

This is why Patreon tiering and such is a good way to do it. You could also probably have a donation goal outside patreon for making a new comic, like, "if I receive 700 USD, I'll start creation on a new comic/or/release US digital publication to all donators" so you have a guaranteed amount you at least make/you can keep that goal available until next convention. I also don't get how watermarks aren't a good deterrent. If they're across each page subtlety.

It sucks, and i don't think people should share stuff for a couple of months/if you do keep it private and not on a public board, but I think there's work around to get some business. I think it was worse for ones like gamma, but in general doujin creators definitely have it rough if they want to get their titles to the US/digital.

I honestly don't think there is much holding her back unlike artists like faf. If maririn pulls her support from this site, it'll only further fall into obscurity. He could have done so much to bridge the gap between western and eastern markets, but nope he had to stop piracy.

Is that really the case? Well good on Maririn for taking the EA approach to digital content. Christ. I'm not sure if some comics only appear censored in the previews or not, since there is no clarification. Sometimes there's no preview at all.

As much as I'd like to push DLsite, the interface is abysmal. The adults/gays (lol) sections are hidden away in a far off corner that you can only find after scrolling down. The front page is poorly optimised, with comics sorted by date (for some reason) up to about 10 release dates. The monthly ranking is hidden away at the side, essentially burying works that never break the top 30.

Clicking for more at the bottom just takes you to a catalogue of everything. Which could be fine, but the tagging system is busted. Not everything is properly tagged, with the "furry (male)" tag missing from a large chunks of works. In Brothers In Arms 1, it's tagged as "Animalize" instead? There's no way to distinguish it from straight shit at all. You can also find stuff through the recommended list on a doujin's sale page, a la Amazon, where it shows other stuff that was viewed or purchased by previous customers, but it's not reliable at all.

I shit you not, the only real reliable way to browse this site's catalogue is to go onto the releases page and my god http://www.dlsite.com/gay-eng/new

Basically for whatever reason, the site only organises by individual date. Which means you can only view around 1-5 works at a time. It makes no sense. It's indefensible. It's a shame too, since there is good stuff hidden away there.

Out of curiosity, I looked at the straight section and it seems to be alright. Basically it's more of a software store, with Hatoful boyfriend being the most popular item of all time at 7000 copies, with 2000 copies being the average for more popular stuff. It's a far cry from the weekly/monthly sales which has slowed down considerably, but stuff still manages to get about 150-50 sales per month on average. This may mean that people have moved onto better storefronts, which I can't blame them for.

Really I wouldn't be surprised if Dlsite's gays (lol) section only fares poorly due to its poor UI and lack of artist support and consumer awareness. Popular stuff, like Lagoon Lounge is software, this site's specialty and Brother in Arms 1 is popular due to Maririn, and likely Maririn alone promoting it on her twitter (and let's face it, the fart scene is a huge turnoff). Like imagine if you can go there to buy all of the Build Tiger stuff, while easily finding access to good shit like http://www.dlsite.com/gay-eng/work/=/product_id/RE167208.html with Gamma using his popularity to boost obscure works. But nah, we gotta stop piracy by letting old works die forever once they fall out of print.

Real talk, is the western furry market even large enough to warrant translations in the first place, or is it just a case of it being too fractured, with a lack of information and transparency coupled with the geographic and language barrier? 500ish copies of the lagoon lounge games isn't bad, and that's only after a concerted effort of both the fans and the creators over a long period of time.

The lack of sales can also be attributed to the lack of artist support as well. Browsing pivix reveals hundreds of high quality doujin that are perpetually out of stock on alice-books, either due to popular demand or for being older than six months. Imagine if those hundreds of doujins were available on DLsite, or some other much better storefront with artists open to communicating with western audiences, instead of apparently unionising against us. People would be drowning in choice and would have a reason to visit the site regularly, knowing that they have the option to purchase either a physical copy to add to their collection, or get it digitally once it's cheaper (from saving up on shipping fees).

Also "piracy" by sharing one copy between friends is already a thing. Which is a natural result of a culture that kills works with artificial scarcity. Artists need to be communicative with their audiences about how this impacts their profits, with consumers advocating for a new culture that demands people to support their favorite artists digitally. I realise I'm asking for way too much from amateur hobbyists and people who probably don't have money in the first place, but blaming others and closing yourself off from potential markets is in no way the answer.

So far, Lagoon Lounge seems to be the only real success story, and that's a result of the collaborative effort of the creators and of the fans. Maybe that patreon guy had the solution to this, I don't know.

How do we know those sales on dlsite weren't because people just check that site regularly, but because they were a result of her efforts to get people to check out her product in the first place. How many people are going to start to think of digital as an option now? How many sales were lost due to only having an inferior option available to them, and how long is it going to take for people to get screwed over by the DRM?

Regardless, we shouldn't scan and dump immediately. If the artist themselves refuse to adopt sound business practices, it's up to the consumers to preserve old works on our terms. I just hope that other people push for superior storefronts in the future.

Keep in mind that the story itself was original written by islethewolf BIA 1 and 2. Maririn just received permission to turn the story into a comic. When I read both story it has fart because the writer has this sort of fetish. When Maririn did the first comic people complain about the fart so she changed it in the remake.

It's kind of getting silly. Video game companies can't get away with DRM (see: RE7), so there's no way in Sam's hills that online furry porn is going to stay "contained". And "threatening" us when 1. She knows it's going to happen and 2. There's nothing 99% of her supporters/fans can do about it.

Look, I like Maririn. I like her art style, can't say I know too much about her life. I like supporting her and I have in the past (I purchased Tiger Dad/Wolf Teacher 2). But this is just silliness on a new level. I never gave the .pdf to anyone but I did transfer it around on my devices/store it on the cloud because it's 100x easier to access that way instead of downloading some proprietary software to view a locked-down version of it.

Worst case scenario if she didn't try to guard the files: they spread 1-5 days earlier. You could argue "that's when the sales would come in" but no. You know. You and I both know that it spreading wouldn't affect purchasing numbers one bit, especially since this community -knows- the comic is going to be spread eventually.

I somehow doubt maririn cares though. She's either ignorant of the consequences of her actions in the larger scheme of things; or willing to spite potential customers to stop the inevitable pirate, all for those sweet profits. But who can blame her honestly? She's an amature artist raking in big money for the first time with her work that she's clearly put a lot of effort into. It's not her job to preserve old works, or to act as a mediator between two very different cultures separated by a language barrier. It's just such a shame though, because she accidentally put herself into a position where she could have been a pioneer for this sort of stuff.

Or they are available digitally, or by patron where we have the choice to support the artist someday in the future. The qualifying word here is choice, in that a bunch of uploaded works there's no way to support the artist since they don't take the risk in uploading their works to a digital storefront (that isn't in Japanese, or isn't garbage like dlsite). And so now their hard work is just gone forever, if it weren't for people scanning them and sharing them online.

Don't get me wrong, I'm totally fine with scanners being principled and sharing stuff a year later after they go out of print, though I'd prefer artists doing the same on digital storefronts. Just so long as old stuff gets preserved, I'm fine with whatever. Like I'm pretty sure all of gammas works would be lost forever if it weren't for people sharing them online without his permission, which is baffling to me.

This story, to be truthfull....
it reminds me of a friend i had. coals backstory has somewhat a resemblance of him (Social outcast dad&son, Dads a war vet from Afghan, Shit life no money, lived in the slums for some time after his fathers death) And the story pretty much continues same as his as he also met someone who saved his life.
even the sad parts on this comic happened as he grew love for the man who saved him yet weeks later he called me sobbing and growling random things (Hes probably drunk) and invites me to attend the man's funeral. i was confused kinda since i rarely met his friend he kept talking about everytime i meet him in the park jogging. Aand... yea, i attended out of confusion of who was he actually.
then my friend told me the whole story between him and his friend and how they met and also how they loved each other in the end. it was too sad to see this comic ;_;. i hope my friends story continues all the way as this comic did ;_;...........
