My opinion on sound/action words is that if you can seamlessly erase the Japanese and replace it with English, it looks very professional but takes a ton of work. Including both English and Japanese looks too busy but you can't deny that it assists comprehension. Besides, if the reader wants a cleaner version for just looking at, they can always download the raws that, when it comes to doujin here, tend to be more readily available than translations. Lastly, not bothering with them at all is what I do. I justify it with the logic that knowing the precise sound made when a person is getting punched isn't really vital to understanding the story, and besides, they can usually just fill in the blank themselves. I consider it a lazy man's shortcut, but I don't like the look of Jap/Eng side-by-side and I can't justify the time cost taken in cleaning and redrawing to replace all of the Japanese sound words with English ones.
