Then you have not been fully exposed to the online world as I have been for the past 30 years.
I've been in every type of guild drama you can imagine of. Most of it has been (World of Warcraft's fault) that has fallen apart for various reasons. As I said, the idea of a female gamer is rare and that much more rarer if they decide to play a male character. Eventually at the end, regardless of choice, most female players cannot handle online gameplay interaction with other males because it usually ends up in some sort of harassment.
In my experience of online gaming, normal players or casual players end up being ignored and oblivious to these situations because you don't stand out. You don't do anything to make yourself noticed and you end up being faded out in the cause effect.
People that do stand out have a goal and usually those goals involve some sort of back stabbing. I have met females that play their female characters to seduce boys, young children, young male, and older men (married or single) to obtain benefits as listed above. Others that have been harassed or abused in real life use Male Characters as a form of revenge to tarnish the male outlook scene in society and they tend to target groups/guilds that have males that like to brag about themselves; infiltrate those gatherings and place their poison within them.
However this is only accomplished when certain aspects meet the quota. The greater the risks for the reward, the greater the loss when it all goes wrong. This is where predators gather and wait for their next prey. So Major MMOs or certain (first person shooters) games that allow guilds or a gathering hub that offers these risks, are a major target for "bad females".
Since they are females, they can get away with this practice because they can easily use defense cards to be excused of such wrongful doings. In example if she worked a guy very well and trained him to give her in-game items, guild spots, and/or real money; she can say they were gifts. If the situation is too vague she can turn it around and say that she was harassed and that's that. She gets away with it Scott free and the nerd, which 9/10 has never interacted with a real female before, falls victim to his own pride and over reacts and thus loses the battle.
