My initial gut reaction to Leon's Patreon was also along the lines of "Huh, profiting from other's work..." But thinking about it more, the doujins are most likely already posted and all we get is more English translations, which is great. Thank you, Leon.
If people want thing X they will do whatever it takes to get thing X. Artists can either make paying for their work as easy as possible or keep shouting into the void.
Like this doujin, if I'm not mistaken you can only get it from digiket, which you have to jump through hoops to use if you are not in Japan. The artist obviously doesn't care about the potential international audience.
