its actually a commissioned comic by the writer, he did more with artists like Kom and dully and they are all in his Patreon, so I doubt he is going to release more pages anytime soon, that he let torque release this five feels like a stunt to get people to subscribe if anything

If it was just about making his art public, he'd release low-res, B&W, and/or censored versions of all the pages and give his patrons the full version. If he wants to have his content be exclusive to those who pay, he could have just left the whole thing exclusive to Patreon. Posting half the content for free and leaving the good stuff locked behind a paywall is a scummy business tactic that's only purpose is to try to bait in more patrons. It's a cash grab.

That kind of behavior makes me not want to support this artist. I love his art, but if this is how he treats his followers, I don't want to encourage him.

The artist in question posts everything he does eventually, unless the commissioner requests him not to. The individual who commissioned this comic hasn't paid for the entire thing yet. It's ongoing. So, ultimately, the issue you seem to have here is one you're creating for yourself to try and justify not supporting the artist to continue creating art or the commissioner to see this finished.

I'm probably gonna get myself in trouble or seem like a paranoid nut for coming here and doing this but hey, artist here. Torquewintress/Bastard. I know the feeling you guys are having toward this. it's *beyond* frustrating to get invested in a comic only to get hit wit a cut-off point and whatnot.

Personally, i'd never do something like this on my own. The guy who's funding/paying for these pages is running a patreon and had asked me to post 5 pages to advertise for him, so that's the situation going on here.

The comic isn't done so i didn't actually really want to post it outside of the patreon period because i hate posting out things that aren't absolutely 100% completed because of the Furry Comic Curse (artist starts comic, people get invested, comic/artist suddenly up and disappears or has a huge hiatus, y'know.) but i just wanted to help out the guy paying me n stuff.

That's my case.

You aren't currently supporting the artist but then you're complaining about not having access to their art for free and that's why you're not supporting them? Truly, your logic is dizzying.

This is the previously-described self-entitlement that was being described above. An artist owes you nothing if you're not paying them for it. If they want to release any amount of their art for free as a business tactic, that's their prerogative, but don't pretend it's a scummy just because you have blue balls and don't want to shell out any monetary support.

Besides, all of this is moot, given the artist's response above.

What I was trying to say is that this business tactic is having the opposite intended effect for me. The commissioner (not the artist, thanks for correcting me) is intentionally preying on people's emotions. It's disgusting. I MIGHT have supported them if I enjoyed the content, but because of these scummy business practices, I will NEVER support them.

And it is scummy. There's no pretending about it. Purposefully releasing half the content as an "advertisement" is an underhanded and dirty way of trying to convince people to become patrons.

I've said it several times, I have no problem with it not being free. I've paid for art before.

I have a problem with the tactics employed here.

If they had left the entire thing behind a paywall, I would have considered paying to see it, since this is one of my favorite artists and I like the characters. Leaving half of it behind the paywall to entice people to pay for access is shitty, and I refuse to support that behavior.

To use your analogy, it's like their job is a car salesman.

They could have simply advertised the car, and sold it to all those interested. That's totally fine. That's just business.

Another salesman gives away the car, but is selling the engine separately for the full price of the car. That's scummy.

We're not getting the rest for free. The artist came here and said it himself; he's releasing part of the comic to advertise the commissioner's Patreon. The rest of the pages are behind a paywall.

My analogy works just fine. The business tactic is scummy because it's teasing people with something free yet incomplete, something that requires you to buy in to fully enjoy the product.

A slice of cake isn't a good analogy, since that's a complete portion. A better version of your analogy would be giving away a bite of cake to try to tempt people into paying for a whole slice. It's manipulative.

Half-releasing the comic is purely a marketing ploy that preys on people's impulsiveness and their need for resolution. It's a dirty trick and disrespectful to their potential customers.

But that just raises the question of why you're being such an ass by blaming the artist for what the commissioner wants? It still comes back to you being a stingy fuck. It has nothing to do with "wanting to support" anyone; it has to do with you feeling entitled to the rest of this comic for free.

Besides, the commissioner will almost entirely likely post the pages himself for free eventually. So you're ultimately just complaining about not getting it for free sooner.

Again, and I've said this repeatedly, this isn't about money. I've given artists money for their art. I've subscribed to Patreons. I'm not stingy and entitled. This is about the use of scummy business practices to try to bait people into becoming patrons by teasing them with an incomplete comic.

If they had put this up on Gumroad or something as an image pack, I probably would have put money down for it because I like this artist and the characters, but I refuse to support the commissioner if they feel the need to blue ball people in an attempt to get their money. Even if they had left the whole thing on their Patreon, I wouldn't have had a problem with that, that's par for the course. But to partially release the comic and only letting you see the end if you subscribe, like those clickbait sites that let you take a quiz and only give you the results if you buy them, that is low.

According to the actual patreon, it says that the comics are publicly posted 3 pages behind the patreon. It is on page 8, this is 5. I got see why you all think the other ones are never going to show up.

And if that's for some reason not already the case for only this specific comic compared to every other one, then torque needs to take the 4 minutes every two weeks to upload another page in order to not drive everyone mad.

So far, a raccoon and a cat from two IP's (through unexplained, but plausible crossover) get hit with an aphrodisiac and a mess of sex ensues.

"So its come to my attention that the comic Space Humps is currently all online after someone went and posted it all on U18chan and imported the Patreon to Yiff.Party. For those of you who don't know, Yiff.Party is a website that uses bots to crawl various different Patreon campaigns and post the content for free online. The only reason this happened is because I asked Torquewintress/Bastard to help promote the Patreon by posting it on his twitter and FA. Unfortunately its led to a backlash on the chan sites and now I'll have to change the format in which the comics will be sent online. From now on, all packs will be sent directly to your email accounts so please keep an eye out on your email accounts in the near future. Either that or I will go back to using the messaging system. Let me know which you prefer."

That's not going to stop the leaks, I'll still leak the next page. All you're doing is making actual paying customers have a worse experience.

Piracy is simply a fact of the internet. There's enough genuine people out there to make money off anyways, don't screw them over thinking you can make more money by doing so. There's a reason pay-what-you-want is a viable strategy.
