The art is getting better. This simplified color scheme and line work is pretty flattering to this particular comic.

Sometimes when artists get better, they "over do it" and work at the very limits of their rendering skills.

When they walk it back a little, beautiful things happen.

Nikko is still really heavy-handed with highlights, making everything looks crazy shiny, though it's nowhere near as bad as before.

Other than that, though, this is a drastic improvement art-wise over his previous projects. The colors really pop and he's getting more consistent with character anatomy.

I can't imagine this is gonna be easy for Chuck to apologize for his shitty behavior towards Ash. He just tried to get Ash to get over it like it was all just a pebble in his shoe rather than an emotionally torturous experience, and Ash refuses to listen. This is gonna be difficult to go forward, but I'm excited for it.

I hope Chuck manages to say something truly genuine to get Ash to understand how sorry he is for what he did. (I'm hoping that this heart to heart happens after Chuck goes to take a shower after Ash does)

If someone makes your life miserable for literal years, and then later on walks up to you and pretends like you're best friends, telling you that you need to "let go" of your anger because they wants to be buds now... At this point, all we have to hold out for is either a flash back or a heart to heart talk. I'm impressed that he was able to completely change his style from his previous comics. Not that I didn't like the other comics, but I can't even tell this was made by the same artist. I dare you to compare this to bodega cat and tell me if there are any telltale signs that the same person drew it (other than the title).

The style overall is the same and its obviously him, the coloring and shading are definitely different though, these characters don't have a sheen on them. You can also tell its him by the way he draws profile views, look at their jaws on the first page especially in the last panel

Nah didn't go to art school, its just obvious based on how he draws characters faces. The head shapes and bodies are similar to past comics but like I said the coloring and shading is in a different style than his other stuff, the outlines are bolder and the characters don't have that white shine like usual. Like just look at the first page by itself and you see the same heads and eyes from other comics, even the mc's eyes kind of look like Omar's

you can really easily tell this is nikko's. he favors a lot of orange hues, the way the comic is laid out is reminiscint of him, and most importantly, his art style is really distinct. it's really not that hard to tell it's the same artist, speaking as someone with 0 art experience

Its funny because i study art and the differences stood out too much initially for me to recognize this as Nikko's art, however i do see it now. The most obvious difference is the shading, going from painted forms and gradients, to cartoon-ish blocked in cast shadows. Then again i'm only really familiar with his new comic Bodega Cat, which seems to change styles panel to panel.
