Psyched that this got posted here! Been lurking U18 for years.

The reason the schedule is so tight is that I'm completing my thesis for graduation. The semester is over around November and I should be able to post more after that. Trust me, as the guy working on the comic, it sucks that I gotta' sit on so much of it. I'd love to just *get it out.*

This has to work for now and hopefully I can marathon it come November! Thanks for understanding.

I don't think self consciousness is inherently linked to weight. I've met fat people who are hyper confident in themselves, even if Basil is not.

That being said, the story is absolutely acknowledging the physiological consequences through stuff like chaffing so far. I think *health* is the ultimate goal, but looking a certain way and being self conscious because of it is legit down to how thick-skinned you are. Doesn't matter what other people think as long as you accept it doesn't matter.

You're not quite understanding.

This guy is, in his mind, trying to be "nice" by potentially saving the piggy money. He's doing this because he thinks this random fatty is going to commit to a season, then never show up, thus wasting 300 bucks. So he offers him a free week first, essentially to prove that the guy won't show up. He views this as kindness.

However, to the pig, this is obviously insulting. He was decided to make a financial commitment to improving himself at the gym, and the very first guy he's talking to to achieve this is already brushing him off and not believing in him. He's not being taken seriously, and as someone trying to take steps towards a goal, the pig is obviously irate and frustrated.

In short, bunny is being a dick and may or may not realise it, and the pig is upset from having someone not take him seriously from day 1.

I already think that it will be that old plot:his crush actually like him the way he's hit don't know it yet. So I interpret his attitude and smirk as he's doing a test to the pig, if he can keep it up and maybe commit enough to go full season.
Train in a gym is not easy. It's not just go there, lift some height and check it as finished in your "to do" list. The first days will be a pain and probably the pig will give up. Also is he really want to go to gym to lose weight or to just get closer to the bun? Isn't this a bit of "stalker"?

That's pretty uncharitable of a reading on the character's behalf. Some people stress eat when things go wrong. It's not clear that he doesn't *really* want to lose weight. It isn't mutually exclusive to be interested in someone AND want to lose weight and then get crushed by the person you like and give into stress eating. :/

Comic never implies that he saw the bunny before or wanted to go to the gym specifically because of the bunny. His attraction to the bunny just enhances his feeling of shame because he has a poor self-image and has his fears realized when someone he is physically attracted to finds him disgusting.

From a narrative perspective it'd make sense to have a twist like that, but logically it doesn't really make sense for Basil to be telling her about his exercise place adventures with this rabbit guy and not have her realize it was him. Im taken back by how painful and awkward this is to read. It makes it very obvious that everyone has issues it's almost slapping you in the face with them. Its setting up to be a "long" read because you can't really resolve whats been presented in any "quick fix" way. That came to mind a while after I typed that comment actually. I called him dense earlier but Pigs are meant to quite clever, so maybe he did pick up on something and didn't want to bring it up? He's got some pretty bad confidence issues too so I can't see him confronting anybody with it, but it might play into the story later.

I simply refuse to make a ton of assumptions about a guy who's been in one scene to that point, and was taken by surprise by a complete stranger in his house drinking with his spouse after a rough work day. No shit he'd be annoyed at the entire situation. It's also just as likely she shouldn't be drinking due to past behavior as it is assuming he controls her alcohol input.

Not to mention, now they're just casually talking to each other. In what world would a controlled spouse say "He's scared of you" to their partner without any hesitation at all? It makes zero sense. The artist tried to implement clues into a scene, made them very easy to dispute, then followed it up with the two looking just fine.

Becuase we all are JUST assuming what Basil THINK what's going on. We all are seeing Basil's perspective so of course we all seeing all these characters as "passive aggressive" people because Basil are assuming things all the time. In my experience, shaming people into becoming healthier and providing nothing else is a failing strategy. It just leaves you looking like a self-righteous jerk and makes the other person even more reticent to change. If they truly want to improve themselves and lose weight, they will eventually internalize the consequences, seek advice and find ways to commit to it. Hell, smokers and heavy drinkers are into even more dangerous habits, habits that actively inconvenience others, and they still get a lot more sympathy and encourangement (versus just shaming) than overweight people.

I think a lot of the people who come over here are just underexposed to both real life and basic gray/complex storytelling; stories where, as you say, no one is entirely right or entirely wrong. This kind of comic is always just a personal trainer=dom fantasy. It's never about somebody actually struggling with body image issues and wanting to do something about it.

Basil is kind of a piece of shit but these last few pages really have me rooting for him. Literally couldn't say it any better than the comic, "having sex with you isn't going to change how I feel about being me".

For all of our talk about body positivity and being okay with "who you are", there's something to be said about doing really really fucking hard work and not hating yourself for what you see in the mirror each morning.

I think in general, "body positivity" is more about not letting other people's perception of you bring you down if you are *happy* with your health and you are not self-harming.

If I am slightly overweight and am happy with my size and can live a reasonably healthy life, I shouldn't harm myself physically or mentally to change myself. But if I'm morbidly obese, obviously something needs to change.

I think the comic shows that Basil has a desire to change himself and handles it pretty well /shrug. Obviously he has some commitment issues and has unhealthy coping habits that he'll need to unlearn.
