Artist: Makes short comic with very good art, follows commission request and makes fine if often clunky dialogue, pulls off oral sex with kink without being excessive or bland.

Everyone else: make repeated riffs on the moments of cringe dialogue, don't bother mentioning anything else.

Wonder why so many artists don't bother "taking constructive criticism" from the audience.

Not trying to sound pompous here, but it seems you guys have never learned multiple languages or lived in another country. As someone who lived in Japan for several years and became semi-fluent, I mix Japanese and English all the time, especially when I'm talking with my former coworkers. It's very natural to slip in Japanese words in our sentences when they express more readily or better convey what we are trying to say (i.e. "Woah that's yabai!"), and the same with English. To me, this bat is putting in French words--his native tongue, I presume--when he is expressing emotion, and it's very natural.

Also the art is cute and overall it's a cute, simple comic. It's no masterpiece, but so what.

No. That's straight up cringe. I don't live in a country where English is the main language (not even secondary language), but I'm fluent on it and I still don't mix both languages. I literally cringe when I see my boyfriend doing so, and I tell him the correct word in our main language, because this is simply beyond ridiculous.

As for the comic, it added a nice touch, didn't see anything wrong with it even if I heavily dislike French

The problem is that the artist (and/or the comissioner) is obviously not fluent, not that the bat slips some french words here and there. You can't use the word "incroyable" to replace "incredible" in all contexts, languages just doesn't work that way. If you really want your character to sound natural while they're using words from their native tongue, you have to know how a certain thing is said in both languages. In the case of "You smell incredible!", a close equivalent would be "Tu sens tellement bon!". If that bat character's first language was french, he would actually say "You smell tellement bon!". You even can slip a "putain" for good measure.

Here, he's misusing his seemingly first language, so to anyone actually speaking french fluently, that character sounds like an english-speaker using some french words to show off. Which is cringy as hell.

The art isn't hyper detailed or skilled or anything and looks rather flat in a few places, but his characters are more expressive than most artists I've seen of a similar skill level and that stands out to me.

Also he avoids the "Everything is a dog" syndrome most furry artists have fallen into which is a good thing.

The greater the difference in the way you pronounce things and the word ordering, the less likely you are to mix them, because doing so requires difficult mental gymnastics. Like for languages where the same letter codes for a contradicting sound e.g. y-j or i-e

Literally: "I not will never you the give", I'm never going to give it to you. Point being, if you're slipping in a french word, it ends up in the wrong place in the sentence and you wouldn't make that slip because it makes no sense in either language. It' can't happen by accident unless you're having a stroke.

Yep, exactly my point, even if my lacking grasp on French beyond the basics made me not even realize how wrong Incroyable was in this context.
What triggered the 'english-speaker using french words' for me personally was that they are exclusively the type of French words everyone and their mom knows, which immediately makes the character feel a bit artificial and insincere. And it's pretty dang tropey too.

I'd be more constructive if I knew they were around, or if it were more than just a really quick bite of silly porn. There's just not that much to talk about aside from that elephant in the room. =/

The lot of you are complaining about stuff that doesn't matter and only has one "offensive" use in the comic. If you reread it, his use of "incroyable" rather than incredible is the closest thing to cringe. The rest of it is something people would just do:

Mon deiu (My God)
Merci (thanks)
Ah Merde (As shit)

Etc.

Most fictional characters would use these phrases from their native tongue to indicate being a reflex reaction to a situation (See Spy from TF2 says merde with some frequency).

But in any case, who cares? You're criticizing the artist for following what the commissioner wanted. And it isn't even that bad!

Also, complaining about "use in the sentence" is nonsensical. By that logic, we couldn't steal words from other languages as English regularly does:

Faux pas (French)
Amen (Hebrew/Latin)
Poltergeist (German)
Zugzwang (German
Nonpareil (French)

These words are not altered and have specific meaning that is shared in their native tongue.

Of course we can use them just like any other word.

Here, the artist wants us to believe that this bat character speaks french as his first language. But his lines are badly written, making it hard for many people to enjoy the comic, because the bat just doesn't sound genuine. French people wouldn't throw some basic french words here and there to spice up a conversation, that's ridiculous! Cursing in their mother tongue, on the other hand, would absolutely be something that someone would do, making that last "Ah merde" actually belivable.

But that's absolutely not the same as a situation where a foreign word is commonly used in another language.

People who use loanwords in everyday conversation do so for the explicit purpose of showing that they know these words.

Being a bilingual person, I can tell you the brain locks on to one language to express thoughts, to the point that you will swear and curse in that language automatically, until you switch to the other language because it has some word or concept that is easier to think about or express in that language. For basic stuff like "oh shit", it doesn't happen because the expression is the same. In a curious side effect, it is sometimes possible to have a conversation with yourself in opposite languages because one language thinks differently than the other - it's possible to think in one language what you simply don't know in the other, and vice versa, so it's almost like having two minds in one head.

It's not a joke, because they're not offended by the use of French, it's the bad use of French here that is cringy as hell.

"incroyable" is the worst offender, but even "merci" is not that great. Just "merde" works more or less here.

I found an imgur link (https://imgur.com/gallery/ABf0URC) that shows a good deal of REAL bilingual slip-ups. People that wants to create bilingual characters should take example there, instead of that cringy shit of using some foreign words in places that doesn't work.

I don't find French that complicated. If I remember correctly 30% of English words were taken from French. There are many words where the English are content to put an "E" at the end of the word like "Salade" (French) "Salad" (English). Then there are some mistakes not to be made like "bite", for the French, this word is not a bite made by an animal, it is one of the many words to say "penis" in vulgar version, it is the equivalent of "cock"
