Considering he's a sexually repressed dude and Willy is his first, yeah the bussy probably is that good (to him).

But in seriousness, I think Willy is too abrasive for most audiences. And once you've locked on to the notion that Willy sucks and Cody is nuts for liking him (which is a totally valid reading), it makes the story seem too unbelievable to be compelling. But one thing I think PBM does really well is leaving enough compositional details that you can infer things that aren't said in text. For example, while I agree that outing Cody is a fucked up thing to do, Mr Green is positioned as an immediate threat to Willy before any words were spoken between them. I can read the scene as Mr Green already knowing something is up (He says Cody has never been one to deceive, implying he suspects Cody has done so now for the first time for Willy's sake.) and he had a good idea of what that something is already. He summoned Willy with the intention of threatening him away and hopefully in time to salvage what's left of Cody's virtue. And as we've seen before, Willy responds to threats by just getting straight to the point/tearing the bandage off: "yes your suspicions are correct, get over it"

So yeah, while I get why people wouldn't like Willy (I don't hate him, but I don't like him either), I don't think the events and actions are nonsensical. I can still buy into these events (except the immediate post-coma sex, that's still absurd and I think is the story's biggest misstep)

I think that, if the story is meant to make me (the audience) come to like Willy, I think it fails to do that. But to be clear I don't think that's the point of the story anyway. I think the point is to show stigma and how it can warp a person, and how it might look to be with someone like that. And also hot furry porn. I think the comic works on those levels.

The movie Nightcrawler comes to mind. Jake Gyllenhaal 's character is deplorable, absolutely, with no redeeming characteristics save for maybe his ambition/determination. But he was still compelling to watch because the story isn't about trying to get the audience to like him, its an examination of the kinds of people that work and succeed in the stringer industry.

Adults read Willy as a compelling and interesting character because he has realistic flaws and personality traits.

Children don't like him because he's not a cardboard cutout with a cartoonishly idealized body (either femme or himbo) and no opinions or desires beyond sex.

Cody is a far less acceptable character for his own sake because he literally exists only to be a himbo and support Willy's development. Which is why the comic is titled "Little Willy", not "Generic Catholic Schoolboy Bodybuilder Who Magically Has Impossible Patience And Emotional Intelligence".

PBM is wise enough to know that 80% of the target audience wouldn't even read the comic without muscles to goon over.

And honestly? I love Cody's archetype as a sex object. He's hot as fucking fuck. He's just a terrible character design.

I love Willy and empathize with him. I would absolutely hate to have to be around him, and I definitely am not attracted to him - not my type at all. He's a fantastic character, though.

Cody hasn't really wrestled with the conflict between his faith and sexuality on the page at all. Like. At all. He had a wet dream and clutched his cross once and that's about it.

There's no grappling with the ontological arguments about the basis of Christian normative frameworks. There's no emotional introspection about cognitive dissonance. There's no depiction of gradual realization about his attractions during puberty.

He seems an average skinnyfat guy tiptoeing into the lake and suddenly he's magically gay where he was fantasizing about pussy and planning to get married to a cisgirl a few days before that? There's lots of incredibly ridiculous immersion-breaking nonsense like that in the comic. But let's be real. It's a casual porn comic with some sentimental drama to provide more emotional depth to make the porn more compelling for its target audience.

PBM's command of the figure and anatomy is among the best in the entire furry community right now, and I don't think there really needs to be any justification provided if they wanna crank out whatever the fuck they feel like. But it so happens that they're not the worst at creative writing, and better than most in this format and genre whatever technical flaws or amateur mistakes that pro authors could find in the prose.

I totally agree on everything else. cody is great eyecandy, and hes not really had any real conflict about his faith/sexuality. I actually like the tone of the comic for the most part. The problem is idk if PBM really knows what he wanted this comic to be about. Its cool if the story suffers a bit for some fuckin, but theres really not a lot of fuckin. Its great anatomy and compositions, but it cant decide if it wants plot or sex. Thats my biggest problem with it all. 150 pages is a LOT of art to not tell a story or get me off.

Admittedly there is not a lot there, but it's something. I think I can get more from this because of the nebulous time frames the story operates in. Days and weeks can happen between pages without much explicit mention, so it's not hard for me to imagine that additional consideration happened in between those pages. And sure, you can make the point that it lacks in connective tissue to make those jumps feel organic, but it works for me that we just get the big broad strokes and I am left to fill in the gaps myself. That's why I have to give PBM so much credit for the art and composition. As you say, his command of anatomy is exemplary, so much so that I can infer from expression and framing things that maybe the dialogue doesn't make explicit. When Cody finally says "...my attraction to Sarah was nothing like this wildfire I have for Willy..." I can go "yeah, I could tell from how much he lights up around Willy yet loses enthusiasm when the topic of his relationship with Sarah comes up"

Tldr; sorry that the story isn't working for you, but I'm certainly getting enough out of it.

That's exactly what I thought as a child when I experienced my first interest in men, but had no concept of sexual stuff. I just thought it was some kind of feelings of admiration or respect for them.

It's also how I felt when I had my first (and only) girlfriend. Was never any sexual attraction just good friendship. And wasn't until I started dating guys that I realized that you're supposed to feel both that kind of "friendship" AND want to touch them and do sexy stuff with them.

I agree and disagree. I think striking Willy makes sense from a lot of angles: showing that Cody isn't this perfect guy and can be given to violence, that Willy can be so cruel to the point of inciting violence in someone as otherwise pacifist as Cody, a conduit to inspire growth in both of them (Cody in realizing just how gay he is for Willy, Willy in realizing how much of an asshole he is). I just think the coma part jumped the shark. You can resolve a bruised face (and ego) in one night of talking/fucking, but putting someone in a weeklong coma and immediately brushing it under the rug is patently absurd. I would almost have accepted it if PBM wrote the scene as a way to further reinforce Willy's frailness, but that's never remarked upon by anyone.

Also, to people saying it was resolved in 2 pages, I think are undervaluing the Willy + Mr Green scenes. I like to imagine it's because he was thinking about how his preconceived notions are being challenged. I think he wanted the scene to play out like it did; he lets Cody in like he knew he was about to get yelled at because, at some level, I think he knows he's wrong. Willie outed Cody to his father essentially and there were zero repercussions for this. Its not his right to do that, yet it plays out so casually and everything is just okay? Thats convenient and flies in the face of that awful interaction with Willie and his dad.

Willie is basically a total piece of shit of a character and everything he does is sociopathic and manipulative and yet the story treats him like hes this blameless entity and its the worlds fault. What a complete Mary Sue power fantasy.

Im betting the only reason anyone defends this is the art quality and Stockholm syndrome.

Well it's a comic, so yeah, the art is literally fundamental to the medium. And the art in this is pretty incredible. I think the prose is also quite good. The plot can be iffy at points and is definitely its weakest aspect, but its far from the worst I've read. Conflicts resolve a little too quickly/conveniently, but its certainly not egregious enough to turn me off, and nothing in the comic offends me to the degree it seems to for a lot of others.

Also, I don't need characters to be "likeable" as long as they're compelling, which this comic gets right at least half the time

'Queer' is an older English word meaning 'strange' or 'unusual'. Like 'gay' which originally meant 'happy' or 'joyful', the term was hijacked by the bigots and turned into something negative and ugly. There are efforts to reclaim and cleanse the term, which I approve of since I fully embrace my overall weirdness.

Ahhh. Another shallow wish fulfillment comic from PBM. Interesting set up and absolutely god awful conclusion. Willie IS a psycho who is basically framed as ahead of his time when he’s doing things like outing Cody to his homophobic father casually. Cody clobbering his head in and sending him to the hospital did not come back with consequences. The setting and time does not warrant the dad turning around this quickly. This comic is pretentious poorly written schlock that can’t even be bothered to have decent sex. “You need more protein in your diet Cody” is a line that’ll forever haunt me.

I'm not mad, simply disappointed. To anyone with a constructive eye could tell that a skilled person like this could make a better comic than they did.

I literally posted before the latest drop that it's starting to feel rushed to finish, but this is hitting fast-forward and comes off more as a lazy ending.

I'm not going to lose sleep over this comic. I just want a guy who can do better to reach closer to his potential. This comic had good moments, but it sabotaged itself a few times over due to writing and this ending is just the collapse of it all.

Here's to hoping his next project uses what apparently works and does not work from this one. Writing is hard, but that's never an excuse to underachieve.

God Cody is too much of a perfect creature.

He's the Rocky of this horror picture show: a golden idol of impossible masculinity that functions mostly to illustrate the dysfunction of a homosexual.

Cody didn't really suffer much. Definitely not realistically. It's like he mad a confused face and then boop! he's fine with liking toxic femboys.

In real life, people go their whole lives unable to accept their sexuality or confront their parents about it. It never takes less than decades. Ever. That literally doesn't happen because even gay kids who grow up in supportive households with gay parents still can't make peace with it until they have established fully-actualized lives for themselves ... which doesn't happen until financial stability in adulthood. If it ever happens. There's lots of gays in poverty.

He's hot as fuck. But a dangerous trope that has existed in gay literature for too long.

The sooner gays tear down and destroy that toxic trope, the better we'll all be. As painful as it will be, it's necessary for us to find peace in life.

Depends. Most people consider it to be a bit "rough" if spoken by a cishet person, and a bit pretentiously "contrarian" if used by a non-cishet person. It's definitely got a connotation of being "old school" and "alternative culture".
