Can't help but agree. The cover held some promise and then... oof.

Let's hope the story is S-tier to offset the art quality. lmao

Comic making isn't for everyone. What's especially weird is the disparity between the establishing shot of the cafe and things like the table and alarm clock, 100-0 in no time.

I like how he recalled him as 'hot', then on the next page he looked the exact same as in his imagination, yet he was shocked because apparently he used to be a geek now?

Sudden retconned backstory is sudden.

Why are you people always so fussy? It’s not like you could do something as close as this comic anyway, so just enjoy the fact that others will do it for you

I feel like it's the same (x) amount of people who keep saying this similarly trite response. It doesn't matter if the critic has a professional artist or a doodler-- anyone can call out bad art, which unfortunately this is.

I'd have to agree with the general consensus in this thread: cover page and some details on others aren't too bad, but most of it is very amateur. Just looking at the cover and the view of the cafe, they're either traced/heavily referenced or the artist literally poured almost all of their time into that one aspect of said pages; a very common mistake.

I think the overall issue is that the artist doesn't know anything about perspective or construction. If everything actually existed within a 3D space, even a loose one, it would look 99.9% better

If you think the diner is traced you're blind. It's full of obvious mistakes.

My eyes are fine, thank you. I largely meant the cover page in general; all around agree with the rest of your post though.

I can't draw at all. Doesn't mean I can't see that this is pretty rough, and that comment's not just about the art.

The artist has no idea how to use space in any of the panels when it comes to dialogue, in some panels the speech bubbles are all smashed together on the page and unpleasant to try and read, in others there's a whole lot of dead space cause the text takes up only 30-50% of its allotment. Plus, when you can see speech bubbles for individual characters, you don't really need to make them different colors unless it's a stylistic decision that actually makes sense. The text and the boxes and bubbles that contain them greatly vary in size, even in the same damn panel. Not to mention the lack of editing, with multiple spelling and grammar errors, and some unnecessary sentences. Page 1, panel 2: "a message?" *BIG ASS NEW MESSAGE POPUP* plus it feels like any generic ass comic, no hooks or anything unique to get people invested in the story.

Regarding the actual drawings, I second (or third or fourth) the issues with perspective and just the quality overall. One huge issue is the artist has a terminal case of same face, and just about every expression is that goofy, mouth agape look. Also did the 'hot' mouse friend drop acid between panels on page 3? LOOK AT THOSE FUCKING PUPILS IN THE SECOND TO LAST PANEL LMAO. Also the waitress' lower half of her body disappears where the speech bubble ends, unless that's meant to be the table, in which case the artist can't even keep the table color consistent from one panel to the very next.

Also why is his best friend a mouse AND he has a rat for a pet wtf is this weird ass universe. Everything about this screams "first draft" and that it was banged out in an afternoon. If this was a 10 year old's drawings (minus the eventual sexual content) this would be fine, but based on the "1987" in the artist's name, they're at least 33. Oof.

To be serious, if someone likes drawing, cool. Keep on keepin' on. Just understand that anything put out for public consumption is not immune to criticism. Everyone starts from somewhere, and criticism is important because it helps you identify your strengths and weaknesses, and what mistakes not to make the next time.

So your comment about us being fussy and "can't do better" is empty garbage. You can serve someone a piece of shit on a platter, but it doesn't mean they have to snarf it down without complaint.

Here's my take: you're free to draw and post whatever you want, but on the same token, we're free to have an opinion on it.

You're not morally obligated to listen to our criticism. If you want to keep drawing like this, good for you. But we're not morally obligated to respect your work. If we think it looks like shit, we're going to say it.
