Stone Lions are popular in multiple cultures, and are supposed to help guard an area. One kind, the "Auspicious Lion" or "Snow Lion", is meant to help people with luck or escaping karma. First comic seems to play off that. When there's two lions as a pair (more common) that's generally other kinds of these lion statues with other meanings (protection for one set, life and death for the other). First comic seems to be one of these auspicious lions then. I can't tell if it's a porn deep cut, or if I'm just an ignorant westerner and this is commonly known across a lot of the world.
