I don't appreciate the comparison, I don't think it makes sense since they're completely different games, other than being indie games with a slight focus on emotion and atmosphere, but at least for me, it's true that NitW wasn't good, for a number of reasons.
I'll make it short (as much as possible), but the story just wasn't good, just a tad bit convoluted near the end, but it lacked the depth and emotion of Mae's everyday life that the game seemed to embrace during earlier parts of the game, just to become weird and unpleasant, for the sake of having an actually intriguing plot, I assume. Even part of the witty sense of humor is lost after a while.
The soundtrack was bland more often than not, fitting and atmospheric, but still bland. The town songs and a couple of the ones you hear during the obnoxious "dream" jumping segments are the best, but not extraordinary by any means.
The gameplay is nonexistent, you jump around, you smash that one key to talk to other characters, that's it.
The characters, mostly the main ones, were nice for the most part, and the visuals are quite pleasant to look at, which is what makes the game decent... but from that to calling it good or even great, there's kind of a long way.
I mean, even some characters I actually liked didn't click with me from time to time, which is a bit jarring considering I'm part of the very specific demographic this game is directed at.
It was good furry bait though, I'll give you that, since I fell for it. And it definitely wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. That's just my opinion anyway, and I know plenty of furries absolutely loved the game in its entirety.
Lastly, and this is kind of unrelated, other than aesthetic, I'd say undertale is better in every other way, but the comparison is still silly. For example, the characters that are good in one game or the other are good in totally different ways, you can't compare papyrus with gregg, because both are cool funny characters, but one is supposed to be realistic and the other one is mostly a caricature (and also a living skeleton).
