I think Murdoch's camera is a 1915 Kodak "Vest Pocket Autographic".
One of the best selling pocket cameras of the era. Cool detail.

Although it seems to be mirrored on the actual sprites.

Should I play through a few more routes in Echo before I play this since it's a prequel of sorts?? I honestly haven't played Echo in almost 2 years so I barely remember the part I was in, and I've only read that there are no good endings or any kind of proper romance, so it's hard to get excited about it at this point

I'm super interested in the Smoke Room, I simply have nothing to comment since I am trying to avoid actually playing until at least one route is complete.

I just started playing this after catching up with Echo, and the 1080p sure feels nice, along with all the characters having big sprites. The fact that everyone's cute or hot is also somewhat refreshing.

That being said, are the updates short thus far? I mean, compared to Echo and Adastra updates. It seems like route updates in Smoke Room are not very lengthy, but I would assume they're currently focused on ending Echo's last route and starting Adastra 2/Khemia?

Hello people, new fan of the echo project here!
I just finished all routes of The smoke room version 11. Thats the first echo vn I've played/read. Although I've heard a lot about the others from people who recommended it to me. Anyway I really love the wild west feel of this, even though it takes place a few years after the wild west is considered to have ended. I've got one question, what is the monster? Is it a wendingo? Or is it the ghost of Jack in some revenge shape?

New build came out on the patreon yesterday if anyone has it and is kind enough to share. It's a Nik route which I personally don't find as interesting as the rest of the routes but I can't place why. His route just seems to have the least going on in it. Let's hope this update adds something exciting.

That's odd, I've been having that feeling for months too. Not exactly like it yet in similar way, it might sound stupid or something but let me explain. I generally love Echo Projects vn's and I guess you could say I'm just a tad obsessed with it and generally being supportive of them. Strangely enough I start to lose interest in them and I don't why I did or how it even happened, it just made me sick to my gut. I started playing all them from start to finish to gain back my interest and I still had the same feeling. I'm not sure if theres something wrong with me or something else but its really bothering me.

I was really enjoying Smoke Room but lately this feeling has left me feeling empty about it almost distateful and its not like I hate it yet I just can't get it out my head.

There's a quality to the writing in Echo that's missing from TSR. Maybe it's because the former's a story about growing up so it inherently feels more like a story than a murder mystery with grown ass adults in it?

I wouldn't call Nik's route boring, but it has fuck-all else to do with what the other route's are doing and features side-characters more prominently than any of the other main's. It's basically Carl's route again, but Carl's route was the first to be finished and as such didn't have immediate comparison's to make you think of how disconnected it feels.

I think it's because Echo is just way more down to earth than TSR, at least at the beggining of the story, the characters and their conflicts are mundane and at least somewhat relatable to most of the audience, and so it's easier to get invested. Again, only at the beggining, before shit hits the fan in each route.
Not that it makes TSR inherently worse, just a different type of story that hits differently at different times, which may or may not emotionally resonate with you. Personally i really like it, perhaps even more than Echo depending on where it goes from here.

After playing the different story lines Cliff and Murdock seem shifty. Sam's "i can't trust anyone" attitude may be getting to me but it seems they have some of their own skeletons hidden. i think Murdock is more responsible for his brother's death than he is letting on and Cliff knows what happened to the missing rat who kicked his ass at the start.

I couldn't care less about the drama, I just check the official server once in a while for fanart and discussion instead of checking here.
I expected William's update to bring his route up to par with the other ones in terms of quality writing and plot development, like Nik's latest update did before it, but it was pretty tedious in my opinion.
The other routes develop interesting aspects of Echo itself, so even for characters I don't like whatsoever, they're still more interesting to me than William's (Shout-out to Clifford's route, I hate that gay little rat but there's cool stuff in his route).
Nik's route delves into the mystery of the mines, Cliff into the meseta tribe lore and their knowledge of Echo, and Murdoch into the more direct paranormal phenomena affecting the town, while William's route thus far seems to be focused on a more self contained mystery of sorts and it feels a bit pointless thus far... on top of the family drama which doesn't feel even half as emotionally involved as Murdoch's whole situation with his family, despite it being described as something quite dram atic. There's also the weird bondage stuff in his latest update which was just, not up my alley to say the least lmao.
The other routes also have much more depth to their side characters, along with having more of them, in particular Murdoch's and Nik's are great in that regard, though Cliff's has the doctor who's already more developed than any side character in William's route, on top of all the meseta people we are probably gonna meet in the next couple updates, so there's that too.
