I ask out of curiosity and wanting to learn, but I thought a pack's beta or a service top was supposed to be submissive? This guy looks pretty dominant.

If it holds to the old methodology, then as the Beta, he's the pack's second-in-command, which is a position of dominance. Omega is the lowest on the pecking order. They are the submissives.

Man, the whole alfalfa, beta, smegma thing has always been stupid to me.

It's like a construct to write bad stories that could exist without it. Like, just write a story about a slutty power bottom. You don't need to create a whole social dynamic around it. It's one of those things that kills suspension of disbelief for me.

If I can look at your porn comic and story, and see immediately that the premise is stupid, it's just not appealing.

Well, a social pecking order could work in a story if the world-building is there. If they were in a society that had a caste system in place. Like the ancient cultures, Egyptian, Mayan, Aztec, and the ancient Chinese, something with cultural separations and roles for individuals within them. Or if they were part of some insect-like hive where each member has a specific purpose. However, so many authors just use pack dynamics as shorthand to set up whatever it is they want to happen with the story.

Also, if those scars to supposed to represent what they look like. Why? How would a primitive society whose clothing choice apparently consists of loincloths have the know-how and technology to do that? And if they live in a world with magic, why not just use magic to make them that way? It's the same for Baldur's Gate 3; they had scars like that for characters. But they are in a world where you can drink a potion and turn into a cat or dragon. There would be no need for anything that could leave scars like that.

you're asking this about a story where there are talking deer-wolf hybrid things. The answer is the same for why there are scars as for why they're furries and not humans: because it's hot.

I like that his scars kind of look like antlers. Neat little detail

The real reason is a lack of forethought. People nowadays feel that a character doesn't represent them unless it looks just like them. Because they can't connect on any other level than through pure physical appearances, rather than emotional resonance or intellectual alignment.

this is one of the most "I just pulled this out my ass" comments. Do you think this about literally any other physical characteristic? Top scars are hot and cool looking. It ain't that deep.

That's my problem with a lot of modern fantasy and sci-fi media.

There would probably be a magic or technological solution for such procedures and wouldn't leave such scarring, and may make him fully physically male.

Scars are cool looking which includes top surgery scars. There's plenty of sci-fi and/or fantasy stuff where you got characters walking about with facial scars and other scars because it looks cool, so if that kinda stuff is fine, then top surgery scars should be too.

I mean, how are top surgery scars any different from the well known and almost stereotypical cliche scar-across-the-eye ?

I feel you especially since the whole Alpha/Beta/Omega thing doesn't actually exist. This is something that was observed with wolves in captivity which is basically a bunch of wolves from random packs being thrown in together and made to live together. In nature, free packs don't work like that because packs are families, parents and their children and grandchildren. It's a family unit where everyone works together and has their tacks but this whole "there's this Alpha who rules like a tyrannical king" doesn't exist in the wold... only in captivity.

Because a scar over the eye, a burn scar across the cheek, etc., all imply a moment of badassery. A knife fight with an arch nemesis, a narrow escape from a life-or-death situation. Surgical scars don't imply being a badass, they say, I did this to myself.

Now, that can be changed if the story revolved around how it was done to them without a choice and now they are going after the ones who did it. But otherwise, most just see it and question why? Especially, when, depending on the setting they are within, there would be technological or magical means to not have that.

Oh! Maybe this isn't some fantasy land, maybe it's a real ass polycule of people who get together to roleplay as a "pack".

Between Demicoeur's lacklustre writing (as usual), and the fact that the expressions deserve a shovel to the face, it's a wonder she has anyone giving her Patreon money for that neverending Cinderfrost comic...

Cinderfrost finally ended in August of last year, with Chapter 6, pg 42.

"
From Demicoeur
"It's an extremely surreal thing to wrap up a comic this long, so a surreal final page felt fitting.

I went back to check when I posted the first page of Cinderfrost, and it was in January of 2013. To say that I didn't anticipate I'd still be working on it over a decade later would be an understatement. I started it as a fun 'mini' project. The first chapter was intended to be the story in its entirety. Just a little love story with some supernatural flavour, but nothing too intense.

After six chapters, and two side comics (The Silk Sash and The Sword of Souls) this comic finally comes to a close.

There are still more stories I want to tell in this universe, so in reality it hasn't really 'ended.' We'll still get a taste of what happens to the characters from this story in future comics. Now that I've expanded the universe and sent characters through portals into fantastical realms, suffice it to say I could probably write comics in this universe until I died and it would never be done. But Cinderfrost, at least, is done!

That feels like an achievement, now. Over the years, I've changed so much, it's hard to recognize the artist I was back when I started that first page. The comic has evolved with me over the years, and it means a lot to have had you guys with me for it, some of you from the very beginning.

I first started this patreon because I knew that, without support, I wouldn't be able to finish it. It had gotten too big, too expansive, too unwieldy to do in whatever scraps of spare time I found. You all came through for me with that support, and while I say 'thank you' each month, it never quite feels commensurate with what that support means: that I could continue to make comics for this long, and even finish them.

There's more comic work to come! The next one will be a slight break from the usual. I want to do some erotic shorts. Maybe they'll be part of this universe, maybe not! But they'll mostly be 'simplistic' stories to give my brain a little breather and allow me to experiment a little with the style of colouring!

In the spirit of making it collaborative, I'll be posting about the different ideas I have and letting you all vote on which one I draw next! In the meantime, thank you again for being the incredible patrons you have been, and hopefully I'll see you in this new world soon <3""
